I came down to get some coffee, but before I could open the door, my three-year-old nephew swung it out in my direction. He looked me dead in the eye, held out a closed fist, and then opened it to release a single doggy bone puzzle piece… which fell at my feet. No words were expressed. He then retreated behind the door from whence he came.
Do you think he’s trying to tell me something?

Anywho…
I love light. And I adore finding unique and gorgeous ways to bring it into my life. Light brings with it an immediately heightened sense of joy and a heavy dose of positive energy, imo. I just know that whenever I open up the shades or turn on a soft, indoor light (that isn’t fluorescent), I feel reinvigorated. It’s an amazing feeling. You guys feel me? Anyway, in the spirit of bringing light into all of our lives, I’ve assembled a bunch of my absolute favorite ways to brighten up a space… particularly your wedding space. (… A few of these are on sale… I just pray to the various gods you believe in that none of them sell out… which means they will, now that I’ve said it. Craaaaaap.)
That fabulous Silver Birch Candle up top is the perfect way to lend a little table lighting to your rustic wedding. (Last I checked there weren’t many left, but Cox & Cox usually restocks… so cross your fingers with me!)

So, what do you guys think? Would you go for any of these lighting concepts for your wedding? What kind of lighting are you planning to employ? Do you even have the freedom to be creative about your lighting experience (is your venue supplying the light, in other words)? Chime in! I’m curious what you guys are doing!

I agree – love the light ideas. Especially the lanterns hanging from the tree.

I'm diggin the silver birch candle. We aren't having a rustic wedding, but would definitely consider those if we were. I may take on a little DIY project at home and make some out of the tree limbs I'm trimming in my yard. Good way to recycle and would make a nice gift for my parents who have a rustic bird watching room in their home. :)

Austin, I can see why your lovely lady fell for you. You've got some excellent, thoughtful ideas going on in that head of yours! Love that DIY spirit. :)

that crystal garland would look magical glowing at night in an outdoor wedding…

I also just read a blog post on a western North Carolina local wedding photographer's blog that candles and other ambient lighting helps create great wedding photos.

Great post! We posted a similar topic on our blog. As photogs we love ambient light to enhance the scene. Occasionally we do a wedding that is unnecessarily dark. At one wedding I heard a sweet, elderly couple say they couldn't see people dancing that well because it was so dark. These are fantastic ideas! -Derek

I agree with Chris – the crystal garland would look magical! There is something about candlelight that makes everything more intimate – a MUST at a wedding! Great post Alison…and Austin is adorable!

All of the above are charming! I've always been a glass hurricane girl – there's something so classic about them.

Wow…all of them are gorgeous HOWEVER I would love the silvered tea lights or the birch candle holderI could use anyone of them but the birch leading guests to a barn after an evening ceremony would be heaven!
