REAL PROPOSAL | Rachel + Tyler | Not your typical proposal story…

Guess what, kiddos?  It’s proposal story time once again!

I know you guys have been anxious to read another story – I do read your tweets and all of your emails – so I’m thrilled to bring you this next one.  There are SOOOOOO MANY stories that’s it’s mega-hard to pick just one a week, believe me!  But today I’ve got one that’s truly darling.  You’ll see.  (;

Rachel, the heroine of our story, has a blog of her own, called Raenovate, where she provides readers with before and after stories of all things “reinvigorated, refreshed, and revived.”  It’s design-centric, and worth a visit!  But today she’s sharing something a bit different… the not-so-typical story of her totally rad, nearly spoiled proposal!  Yeah, that’s right, it almost got RUINED.  Well, actually it did, but then it wasn’t – well, just read and you’ll see!

Ok, take it away, Rachel!

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that our proposal story is not of the garden variety.

After my hunka hunka burning love (Tyler) and I had been living together for about a year we talked and planned and unquestionably decided that we were ready to officially start our lives together.  My mom graciously gave us her blessing and an inherited family diamond and off to Tyler’s grandmother’s jeweler we went, custom ring designing.

Obviously I knew a proposal was in the works, but was left in the woods when it came to the romantic details…

… until a family gathering when somebody spilled the beans and told me that Tyler would be proposing on July 6th.

This clearly threw a monkey wrench into his plans, but in the end it allowed us to have a two part proposal and a great story.

Having originally gone to the jeweler together I thought Tyler had been updating me about the ring’s progress, until I woke up on Friday June 25th at 7 am.  Like every other morning I stumbled out of bed and immediately went to feed our hungry boxer and chocolate lab, but this morning was different.

I opened the closet door to find the contents had been emptied and now held fifty sunflowers, the greatest love letter of all time, and the sparkliest diamond ring ever.

We spent the magical day showing off the ring, celebratory eating, and dreaming up the rest of our lives together.  Tyler also informed me to buy myself a new dress and strap in because he did in fact still have something planned for the evening of July 6th.

Having no idea what Ty had up his sleeve, I jumped head first into wedding planning mode making my number one priority booking Oh, Darling! Photography.  Little did I know that they were exactly what he had up his sleeve.

July 6th was a scorcher, in fact it was the hottest day Philadelphia has seen in fifteen years (I’d like to think that the record breaking heat represents our burning love).  Tyler and I had an early dinner at our favorite restaurant (Lolita), and then walked hand in hand to Rittenhouse Square where we were affectionately (and surprisingly for me) greeted by…

… Dustin and Whitney Deal, the married dream team behind Oh, Darling! Photography. For the next couple of hours we toured Philadelphia, chatted it up with our new pals Dustin and Whitney and without any costume change or props, had our pictures taken in the city we fell in love in.

Congratulations, Rachel and Tyler!  So excited for the two of you!  You make the loveliest of couples!

So, what do you guys think of Tyler’s efforts?  Way to recover, eh?

xoxo!  – Alison

    That is amazing! It reminds me of the holidays. You know you’re getting and receiving gifts. Just like Rachel knew she was getting engaged. But the magic is in the details and in the thoughtfulness of the moment. How lovely that Tyler booked an engagement photo shoot with Rachel’s favorite photogs. That is just amazingly romantic!
