FRIDAY’S FAB FINDS™ | Aug 20 | Dress love, ribbons, peony bouquet love, a venue TO DIE FOR, cake toppers, Bulletproof… and the Phish concert on Wednesday changed my life.

Ok, so here’s what happened on Wednesday…

We went to my first Phish concert.

Not a big deal, right?  Not life-changing?  I guess not, unless you’re like me, and you never really *got* what the big deal was with Phish.  Sure, I loved “Billy Breathes,” but so did everyone else who could appreciate a good album but didn’t really give two craps about Phish.  Sure, my little brother loves them, and played their songs around the house when we were younger, so I was exposed to their entire catalog there-to-fore and had ample opportunities to fall in love.  Sure, my guy is a HUGE Phish fan (I feel it’s important to note here that he’s an upstanding citizen and not a drug addict, because it just feels like the public persona of “the Phish fan” is dirty-hippie-druggie… however if you had seen the throngs of ticketless beggars lining the roads and parking lots holding up what I thought were calls for peace, but turned out to be appeals for two tickets, if you had any on you… well, I digress) and he’s always been perplexed by my lack of enthusiasm for the group.

Well, things have changed.  Things have changed in a way that likely prevent aforementioned things to ever return to their previous state.

I went to a Phish concert, and I became a Phish fan.

I’m a little embarrassed because, I’ll admit, I kinda always felt that it was (I feel like I’m gonna pay for saying this) a bit juvenile to like Phish.  Their music was never much of a turn on for me.  It (I’m SO gonna pay for this) always seemed to just drooooone on and on with the instrumentals.  They were the WORST. PART.

But I heard them, Wednesday night, in concert at Jones Beach.  And now, ladies and gentlemen (and college kids everywhere who are reading this and hating me)…

… Now… I get it.

I get it.  I totally, totally get it.  The instrumentals – they’re EVERYTHING.  And you don’t even need to be high to feeeeeel them.

And don’t get me started on the glow stick action.  SHUT UP.  Everyone brings a bushel of glow sticks and somehow has prearranged to release these bushels high into the air at predetermined crescendos in predetermined songs without even knowing the set list?

You’re shitting me.  That’s some really intelligent, organized fandom.

And I loved every drawn-out, high energy, bounce-around-the-stage, instrumental minute of it.  I am forever changed.

That doesn’t mean I’ll be throwing on a Phish CD tonight, but it DOES MEAN I’ll be attending another concert as soon as humanly possible.

And did I mention they perform a choreographed mini trampoline routine?  Did I?  Because they do.  They jump on mini tramps, to the beat of the song.  It’s way more adorable and impressive than you’re likely imagining right now ok I’ll shut up about Phish.

See that gorgeousness up top?  It’s an art installation made of gorgeous ribbons which was part of a wedding featured on 100 Layer Cake.  I loved it the first time, and then repeat swooned over it when I saw a super-fun feature on art installations by Flights of Fancy.

I’m also DYING over this coral peony bouquet.

That’s Dusty Miller surrounding the peony.  P.S. – I {heart} Dusty Miller.

And I’m in love with this handmade loveliness by Ashley Meaders.  It’s got to be one of the coolest ways to dress up your wedding.  For serious.

I LOOOOOOOVE these dresses, as featured on my girl Sofia’s Hotspot.  How.  Fabulous.  Are they.  Seriously.  HOW.

Hey… how ’bout a hand-painted Russian doll cake topper set?

LOVE.  THIS.  CAKE Kristi featured on Luna and Chloe Weddings.  Right on, Kristi.  Buttercream and berries are the way to my cake heart.

I am hopelessly in love with the light fixtures at this venue in Connecticut, as featured on Style Me Pretty by my girl, and fellow SMP guest blogger Chantale.  They look like the tops of palm trees to me, and they set the scene for the most perfect ceremony ever, in my mind.  Bring the outside in, with chandelier palm tree tops!  Love it.

Britt, The Bowie Bride breaks down her budget here, if you’re looking to keep costs low… and are willing to DIY almost EVERYTHING, like she did.  God save her, that young woman did EVERYTHING.  I am endlessly impressed by the efforts she made.  I’m not kidding about the DIY.  Eh…vreh…THING.

And finally, you’ve heard this song, right?  It’s by La Roux, and I’ve loved it ever since it debuted.  Amazingly, it has not become annoying to me yet.  I love.  (By the way the video is RIDICULOUS with a capital RIDICULOUS, so ignore that factor.  Or just don’t even watch it, only listen.  Sigh.  It’s so ridiculous.)

So, got any faves?

And who’s got cool plans for the weekend?  Cool plans can include but are not limited to partying, dancing, building, pioneering, chillin’ out, maxin’ relaxin’ all cool and all shootin’ some b-ball outside of the school… and the like.  So, you doin’ any of that?

xoxo!  – Alison

Those cake toppers are so unbelievably adorable. I think I’m losing it. And La Roux is definitely this summer’s best artist. Once again Alison; excellent finds. Love the FFF!!

Great finds, Alison. My brother, perhaps the biggest Phish fan I know, even named his dog Trey. :) My weekend plans including an impromptu dance party, going out with friends for a pre-bday celebration, and probably getting my shop on. I need new fall clothes. Now. Take care, missy!
