REAL PROPOSAL | Abby + Paul | Sometimes, you just have to pick up and go…

Vendor Love™ launches this week (high kick, wooo!) and I’m thinking, what better way to start off the week than with something completely unrelated, in every possible way?  That’s right, kids, it’s Real Proposal time in the hizzy!  I’ve received a lot of requests to post another one of these tout suite, and now’s as good a time as any, am I right?  Am I?  I’m right.

This one touches me in a lot of ways, and none of them scandalously, so… that’s new.  No, but on a serious note, there are a few reasons to love this couple.  First, they used props.  And I looooove when couples use props in their shoots.  And I don’t think it’s possible to go wrong with heegontay soft serve ice cream cones, you feel me?  Second reason: he does cancer research.  Ok, actually, that should have been the first reason, OBVS., and now that I think of it, those two reasons are actually more than enough reason to love them, so I’ll leave it at that.  Plus, if I go on, I’ll just ruin the story…

BUT, what I will say is that I have a special affinity for this couple because they happened to do their shoot on my college campus!  Go, that!  This is meaningless to you, of course, and thus not a reason for you to love them.  But it is for me, so it stays. :)

Ohh, ohhh!  Did I mention Hawaii’s involved?  Did I?  Because it is.  And you’ll find out sometime soon why that place is so meaningful to me, personally.  BUT I DIGRESS.

… Let’s get to it, shall we?

I present to you, the story of Abby and Paul.  Take it away, Abby…

Paul and I met on a blind date.  Well, sort of blind – perhaps legally blind.

We each saw a picture of the other and gave our respective matchmakers the green light.

We ended the first date by quizzing each other on Saved by the Bell trivia.  When my best friend asked me how it went, I said, “Darnit, now I’m going have to marry him.”  We had been dating for just a few months when…

he told me he would eventually have to move to further his career.  He does cancer research and was in line to do a fellowship at a yet to be decided university.  It was then that we decided if he goes, I go.

One year into our relationship, we moved from Ohio to North Carolina.  The expectation was set that if I’m picking up my life and moving it four states away, that a commitment needed to be made and SOON!  After all, I spent all of my life in Ohio and had great family and friends right in my backyard, and a great job I had to leave.

Two years later.  Yes, two years!  Not my idea of soon.  We went to dinner at our restaurant.  It was the first restaurant we went to before we even officially moved south.  It was the restaurant where we celebrated our two year anniversary.  It was the weekend before my birthday and over dessert of really, really good chocolate cake, Paul asked what I wanted for my birthday.

I told him that I want what I always want.

What I want for Christmas, for Easter, even what I want for Flag Day!  I told him that I didn’t just want the ring though, I told him I wanted the life.

Paul asked, “What if I give you the life right now?”

To which I said, “Is that what you’re doing?”  I looked down at a box on the table and he asked the question I waited three years and four states for!  I of course started crying and managed to say YES!  Paul put the gorgeous and perfect ring on my finger and I continued to cry and laugh at the same time.  The waiter came over and asked if I was okay and if I had something in my eye.  I told him, “NO!  I have something on my finger!”

♥ We decided to elope to Hawaii in October.  Just the two of us. ♥

… But not without doing some of the traditional wedding moments, like having our engagement pictures taken!  My talented friend, Cynthia Kain took our pictures on a very, very hot North Carolina evening. :)

Congratulations, Abby and Paul!  So stoked for the two of you.  Thanks so much for sharing your story with us!!!  Oh, and great job staying sweatless in those shots – I believe I would have been positively *dripping* in it.  I remember those sunny days in NC – running to class, sweat beads trickling down the center of my chest… ok this just got weird.  I’m wrapping it up, immediate-style.
