{#1} VALENTINE’S DAY DIY PROJECT #1 | Mini Heart Cupcake Toppers by Andrea Gray Harper!

Morning friendlies!  Hope you guys had great weekends.  If you’re from the northeast, then that’s directly correlated to how well you bundled up, because it was colder than the devil’s heart this weekend.  Shocking, I know.  And we get to look forward to, that’s right, ANOTHER  snowfall this Tuesday!  Yes!  Isn’t it fabulous?

Anyway, guess what?  Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and that means we’re going to be getting our V-Day on, DIY-, love shoot- and giveaway-style.  Not. too. shabby.  :)  But yeah I’m pretty excited, because we’ve got some really lovely stuff for you, and we’re kicking things off with a submission from event maker Andrea Gray Harper!

When these projects arrived in our inbox about a week and a half ago, I got hella excited and wrote her back in a jiffy.  Andrea’s got the force in her, the pretty project force, and I’m excited for you guys to experience it!  But OF COURSE, first we have a story…

Here’s what we did this weekend.  Searched for a new apartment (which was AWESOME, however I am a strong believer in jinxes so details will follow at a later date), went out for din din, did a lot of walking around the city through massive slush puddles that strikingly and very misleadingly resembled pavement… and visited Toys in Babeland.  Anyone know it?  If you don’t, wellllll… ummm… it’s, uhh… it’s a sex toy shop.  But DON’T FREAK OUT.  It’s a *nice* one, if that makes any sense to you.  It’s sort of the yuppy, haute version of a sex shop; totally not your typical, run-of-the-mill, dirty bird, closed-booths-in-the-back-for-private-2-minute-screenings, icky-pervs-walking-around kind of place AT ALL.  Lemme put it this way: if Toys in Babeland was a woman, it would be the kind of woman you’d take home to mom.  The kind of woman you could imagine a life with.  Settle down, make some babies – ok, that’s enough uncomfortable justifying of our weekend activities.

The REASON I shared that with you is because I bought something at the shop.  One single thing.  And it happens to be the most awesome thing in the world.  Aaaaaand I’m going to tell you about it tomorrow.  Ack, I know!  I’m terrible.  But I just looked at how much I’ve already written without even touching on today’s project and I’ve got to wrap this up.  Forgive me!  Tomorrow, I’ll share the goods.  Promise.  :)

Here we go with Project Numero Uno…

Heart Cupcake Toppers

Take it away, Andrea…

These are an easy, adorable and somewhat reusable decoration. I used them in these small mini cupcakes but you could easily use them to top other cakes and desserts. These instructions can also be adapted for hand-sewing.

Materials:
1. Felt fabric in assorted colors
2. All-purpose sewing thread
3. Toothpicks
4. Hot Glue-gun
5. Glue-gun sticks
6. Water solvable fabric marker
7. sewing machine or hand sewing needle and thread

Step One: Cut out heart shapes from the felt fabrics, alternating colors. Trace the “X’s” and “O’s” onto the hearts with a water solvable fabric marker.

Step Two: Stitch over the areas you drew with the marker. I used a machine with an embroidery stitch option but you could also sew it by hand.

Step 3: Glue the Toothpicks to the back of the hearts and enjoy!

Glad you all like them! Alexis- you can sew the x’s and o’s by hand if you have a couple extra minutes, or they’d also be cute just as hearts I think!

minutes and actual effort to produce a top notch article…
but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and don’t seem to get nearly anything done.
