Happy Friday, my loves! I’m over the moon this morning because the treats I have for you today are nothing short of spectacular. Not to mention, they force an issue I believe needs to be addressed.
Valentine’s Day has a bit of a reputation. What’s that reputation, you ask? Well, I think you know it already. Take a guess – what do most of us think of when we think of Valentine’s Day? We think of it as the guy’s responsibility. Now let me quickly state here that there’s nothing wrong with that; ladies, we deserve all the pampering we can get, and if Hallmark wants to bank on a holiday dedicated to loving women, OMGIAMSOALLFORTHAT. However… I think it’s fair to say that our significant others definitely deserve a little pampering, too. And that’s where today’s shoot comes into play.
When Amber Moon submitted the shoot you’re about to see, I ’bout crapped my pants. This is just Part 1, and there’s much more for you to see this weekend, but… the glitter factor, alone, people. I mean, I just… I can’t… it’s… I just can’t even – I can’t even explain it. Ok, lemme try. For one, glitter = AMAZEBALLS (yeah I’m gonna stay on the glitter thing; sue me). When glitter touches things, it just makes them look happier, and more excited, to exist. You understand. Unfortunately, it’s the bed bug of the crafting world – once it’s in your home, it’s never going to leave. Actually, scratch that – it’s even worse than bed bugs; it stays in your floors AND makes you look like you work nights at Hustlers if you get any on you.
Fortunately for us, Amber, Courtney and the rest of their amazing crew took care of the mess for us, and what resulted is pretty much the sexiest, loveliest, cutest and most inspirational boudoir dessert session (yup, that’s a new term I just made up – gee, I sure am creative!) I’ve seen to date.
The goal here is to inspire you to embrace your inner vixen this Valentine’s Day… and Part 2 is going to teach you, with PHOTOS, EXACTLY HOW TO DO THAT! High kick, woot! I know, I can’t wait either! But first… the pretty, pretty prettiness of a homemade Valentine’s Day dessert boudoir session.
Take it away, ladies!
We couldn’t wait to play with Valentine’s day in our boudoir inspiration shoot! Our desire was to highlight a few things that every girl has in her arsenal – fun lingerie, the perfect recipe, glittery homemade valentines, and her inner self!! Sexy lives everywhere. We wanted to take a peak into the beauty and fun found in the moments when you’re getting ready to see your man. The playful flirt of baking cookies and crafting cards, the sensuality of the primp, and the anticipation of his arrival. Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to get a little sensual and have a some fun!
How to be sexy by Reveal!
Sexy isn’t something that lives on the skin. It’s something that lives inside of you. Sexy doesn’t have a size or a weight. Marilyn Monroe, someone considered to be one of the sexiest women who ever lived, bounced between a size 6 and 12. Take care of your soul.
1) Wear Lingerie that YOU like.
2) Take 2 hours out of your week for mandatory pampering. (Whatever pampering looks like to you).
3) Try something new and exciting like an S Factor class. Get your girlfriends to join you so the community of women around you are all feeling great.
4) Take a cooking class. Food is sexy. Enjoy it.
5) This is the easiest one. Take a deep breath in the morning and know that whatever you face that day is for you and be grateful that you get that moment.
2 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cups cocoa powder (the higher quality the better)
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk (shake well just before using)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs (best to use room temperature)
1 tsp vanilla extra–real, not imitation
1 tsp freshly brewed coffee (use warm to hot, but not cold)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Makes 24 cupcakes
-Line 2 cupcake trays with paper liners of your choosing
Sift the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt into the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment and mix on low speed until combined. In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry.
With mixer still on low, add the coffee and stir just to combine, scraping the bottom of the bowl with a rubber spatula. The batter will be more runny than other batter, but it cooks up quite nicely. Pour approximately 1/4 cup of cupcake batter into the prepared pans and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a cooling rack and cool completely.
Butter cream Frosting:
1 cup butter (2 sticks)
6 cups powdered sugar
8-10 tbsp milk
2 tsp vanilla extract
Place the butter in a large mixing bowl and beat until smooth (about 1 minute). Add 4 cups of the sugar and then the milk and vanilla on low speed. On the medium speed of an electric mixer, beat until smooth and creamy, about 3 to 5 minutes. Gradually add the remaining sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition (about 2 minutes), until the icing is thick enough to be spread easily. Make sure to mix for at least five minutes even though that feels like a long time. The texture will be perfect if you take this time. If desired, add either a few drops of food coloring or 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder and mix thoroughly. Spread or pipe onto cupcakes and enjoy. May be stored in an airtight container for up to 7 days.
P.S. – For the shoot, we added miniature heart shaped sugar cookies as decoration on top of our cupcakes! :)
