FASHION IMPOSSIBLE | FOUND IT! | A David’s Bridal gown I’d wear + bridesmaid pairings in grey/neutral tones

So, our little Pixel & Hank giveaway got off with a bang yesterday, and we seriously can’t wait to see who wins next week!  I love giveaways that give you your pick of whatever you want in a store.  Seriously, aren’t they just the best?  We all have specific taste, and what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another.  So, you get to pick.  Yeehaw!  Awesomesauce.

Moving right along – I’m pretty freakin’ excited about today, and I think you might have a clue as to why.  Can you guess?  I probably gave it away in the title, actually yeah I definitely gave it away in the title, so forget it.  No points for guessing, it’s obvs.  It’s time for yet another installment of one of our favorite series on TKB…

It’s that lovely little thing we call FASHION IMPOSSIBLE!  *The crowd goes wild*

Ok, today’s fashion find is from a gorgeous wedding that our lovely friend Erin premiered on Style Me Pretty, and it’s bonkers.  There were so many, many things I loved about this wedding… but perhaps the absolute BEST THING about the day was…

The Dress.

Well… I found it…

It’s the Galina Strapless Shantung Taffeta Sweetheart Ball Gown… it’s Style T3039…

♥ And it’s available for purchase here. ♥

Images via Style Me Pretty / Photography: Three Nails Photography / Ceremony and Reception Location: the Dixie Cotton Gin / Invitations: home made / Shoes: Mod Cloth / Dress: David’s Bridal / Hair and Make up: Total Changes Hair Salon / Cake: Lisa Massingill

And I’ve plucked out some bridesmaids options from my beloved ASOS to pair with the numba one stunna up top…

ASOS One Shoulder Drape Dress

ASOS Knot Twist Slinky Bodycon Dress

ASOS One Shoulder Dress with Scalloped Hem and Bead Embellishment

ASOS Tie Waisted Cotton Dress

ASOS One Sleeve Off The Shoulder Slinky Dress

ASOS Shirred Waist Frill Detail Dress

Reverse Chiffon Frill Dress with Embellished Shoulder

ASOS Tailored Pleat Waist Tulip Dress

Ok, now, one more shot of that wedding dress.  For old times’ sake.

So, what do you think?  Does the wedding gown in today’s post make you want to run over to DB tout suite?  Because it sorta has that effect on me.  Not to mention MY BMAID DRESS PICKS ARE THROWING ME INTO A FRENZY OF DESIRE.

xoxo!  – Alison

Love all of this...

that dress with the embellished shoulder is out of this world gorgeous!

  2. lizzie on February 16, 2011

okay..number one. I LOVE that dress from David’s Bridal..I never thought I would say that…Anyone think that maybe they just need better product photography??

Anyways, paired with the one-shouldered scalloped pick would be awesome and I love that grey shirred dress….BADASS picks, lady

  3. Morgan Rose on February 16, 2011

I never thought I’d not hate a davids bridal dress!! Somehow this one looks very modern – and doesn’t have whatever the horrible stuff is that makes most (wanted to say all) DB dresses shiny and stiff. Amazing!

Can’t say I’ll be running over to DB when my day comes, but maybe I won’t vom in my mouth when I hear someone else has.

ps. currently drooling over ASOS and trying to dream up an event where i NEED to where that scalloped edge one shoulder dress!! swoon

  4. jenny on February 16, 2011

wow! i am impressed! When i got married that was the last place i wanted to look for my dress haha…maybe I will rethink my opinion about them :)

  5. Amy on February 16, 2011

Blown away. I’ve actually been to a Davids Bridal but I think it has definitely changed since my visit. This gown completely blows my entire concept of that store! I might actually make an appt to go back!

  6. Jennifer on February 16, 2011

I saw that dress in their catalog the other day while at Mens Wearhouse and I thought it was soo cute.

Is it just me, or does that bride resemble Ashley Simpson?

  7. Karen on February 16, 2011

Shocked by my love for this gown. And your bmaid picks! FABULOSITY!

  8. Lauren Elise on February 16, 2011

I have visited David’s Bridal once. During that single visit, most dresses were totally not my style…very traditional and not particularly special. Many of the details looked cheap to me and as Morgan Rose mentioned above, shiny and stiff…blah! There were one or two dresses that I found semi-intriguing and would actually consider trying on. This dress definitely doesn’t fit the David’ Bridal mode…it’s stunning and I would totally consider wearing something like that. I also agree with Lizzie above, maybe they need to work on their product photography because it can really make or break you!

I probably wouldn’t get my dress from David’s Bridal (if I were getting married!) but I would at least go in and see things. Also, the new Vera Wang line appears to be very high end and definitely not cheap looking at all. I know some have issues with Vera going mainstream but if designers like her can elevate the level of design at affordable outlets like David’s Bridal, than I think that’s a good thing. You can have great design that is inexpensive!

Finally catching on a little over at DB, huh? Amazing. I got married super young the first time and wore a DB dress. About 2 or 3 years later I started totally cringing when I would see pictures of that dress (it still haunts my closet!). But right next to it in the closet is my second wedding dress. I made a beeline for Priscilla of Boston and closed my eyes and rocked slowly back and forth every time we passed a DB on the way! For the budget brides out there, I sure hope DB gets it together!

  10. Samantha Martin on February 16, 2011

Well, who would have thought! DB is stepping up their game! Love it!

  11. Megan gibson on February 16, 2011

Ummm, yeah- that wedding dress is beyond beautiful and I honestly would not have expected that to be DB material. I’m absolutely obsessed and will for sure visit DB when dress shopping. I wouldn’t have before.
Thanks for sharing this lovely post!!!!

  12. The Demoiselle on February 16, 2011

I’m in LOVE with… a few things actually…the timepiece, the ASOS dress with the scalloped hem…swooning all over the place!

  13. makeupbyjanine on February 16, 2011

Totally random unrelated-but-kinda-also-related comment: did you see that the GROOM was the wedding photographer??? Alison, how do you feel about that? I’m conflicted. Kudos to his obviously brills talent, but let’s be reals… Wouldn’t you be like “honey I love you but PUT DOWN THE FRICKIN CAMERA THIS IS OUR WEDDING!!!”… or you know, something like that, maybe nicer :)

  14. Christie O. {Hindsight Bride} on February 16, 2011

I nearly fell out of my chair then I read your headline. You? David’s Bridal? Well, here’s the deal. If you love well-made garments, David’s isn’t the way to go. If you don’t give a crap and just need a decent looking dress for the day (like me) David’s is the way to go. They just aren’t that well made, and the poorer quality shows up upon closer inspection.

And I totally agree with makeupbyjane. What were the logistics like with the groom shooting the wedding? I know Pat from Heartty Pay did her own engagement shoot, but not her wedding; no way!

  15. Ariella (@LIBudgetBride) on February 16, 2011

I saw a girl try on this dress when I was trying on mine and she looked fantastic in it. All the consultants just stopped and stared. The girl was very pretty, she wasn’t drop dead gorgeous or anything, but she looked amazing in the dress. Everyone had to stop and look at her. I was looking for something more casual since I’m getting married by the water, so it wasn’t on my radar in the first place, but after seeing her in it, I wouldn’t have bothered.

  16. I love this dress! It looked gorgeous on her

  17. Nathalie D on February 16, 2011

luv both dresses, but especially in luv with the ASOS tie waisted cotton dress.

  18. Nathalie D on February 16, 2011

as in it is a MUST buy!

  19. Diana on February 16, 2011

Gorgeous! Davids Bridal has really come a long way! Hey Vera Wang is there now!

  20. Lena on February 17, 2011

That gown is incredible-David’s Bridal is taking some serious cues from higher end designers, and the results are pretty spectacular! Also, that tie waisted dress from ASOS is DIVINE!

  21. Aileen@Love&Lavender on February 17, 2011

I love that dress, and you’d never guess it was David’s Bridal! Gorgeous bride too, that helps :)

  22. Emily on February 18, 2011

I am SO pleased to see this post! I bought this dress for my June wedding! I love it so much, and even tried to not like it by going to several other more high-end shops. But I came back to this dress. I’m planning on taking the cheap-looking ring that comes in the middle of the bow off like this bride did. Then I’m replacing it with pretty fabric flowers. It’s good to know I’m not the only one who loves this dress, even if it is from DB.

  23. FloridaBride on February 18, 2011

It disheartens me when I see DB bashing. I dare say the majority of women getting married can’t afford to spend thousands of dollars in a boutique. DB maybe their only option. How does all the bashing make them feel after they have bought the most beautiful dress on their budget? They have likely spent hours trying on dresses, finding “the one”, and then come on a blog for ideas and inspiration only to see that their dress isn’t good enough because it is from David’s Bridal. It must hurt when people imply you “don’t give a crap” about your wedding day or your dress if you buy from DB. It reminds me of middle school and I cringe.

When picking out my wedding dress, I went all over. I went from small boutiques to large warehouse style stores. Honestly, DB gave me the best service and the consultants made me feel the best in any of the dresses I tried on. I had two consultants helping me at DB. In one of the boutiques, I barely had the attention of one consultant. I ended up spending more than I wanted to on a designer trumpet style dress from a boutique, but it had nothing to do with the fact that the other dresses came from DB. It was the dress that fit me the best.

Ladies who bought from DB, I just want to say that no matter where you buy your dress as long as you buy the dress you are comfortable in, the one that fits you, and the one that makes you feel beautiful…you will look gorgeous on your wedding day. Chances are, no one at your wedding will be interested in where you bought your dress, unless the are future brides wanting your fashion advice. ;) Also, I doubt anyone will be starting at seams close enough to notice imperfections.

  24. BR on February 18, 2011

    Gorgeous wedding!

Personally, I don’t think DB’s dresses were ever horrible. I’ve seen plenty of my friends rock the bejeezus out of their dresses and look absolutely gorgeous in it. Now that they have Vera Wang dress line, I’m thinking DB is only going to be even more popular than before.

ASOS is the shiz. I wish I could buy everything in there.

  25. h_carder on February 19, 2011

When we began shopping for my mom’s wedding dress last summer we started at David’s Bridal. I was very disapointed by most of the dresses, except for this one. I think it is beautiful.

It certainly needs the right body type and the right wedding, but that is one reason it is unique. This was obviously the perfect wedding for this dress.

  26. Kate/MagnoliaRouge on February 20, 2011

LOVE that one-shouldered scalloped number so SO much!!!

  27. Danielle on February 20, 2011

Wow!! I had no idea DB did anything that nice, and now I’ve looked on their website and they have VERA WANG??? I can’t imagine she would do anything that would hurt her brand, so hopefully the dresses are up to her standards of quality. Amazing!

  28. Hollie @ Thrifty in White on February 22, 2011

My fierce bridesmaids are picking their own dresses, and one of my ladies actually chose the ASOS beaded, one-shouldered scalloped frock…unfortunately, the sizing and fit were WONKY, the color wasn’t anything like the picture online, and the hemline was borderline scandalous.

We’re talking the, “Honey, don’t even think about setting something on the ground and then bending over to pick it up unless you want to show everyone in attendance your ladyparts,” sort of scandalous.

  29. Meaghan Janes on April 13, 2011

I LOVE the dress and the bridesmaid dresses she actually picked for the wedding!! Where can I find them??

  30. Heather Ash on May 13, 2011

This is the dress that I have purchased for my own wedding! I love it so much…planning on wearing it with long necklaces, like the bride in this photo shoot, and hopefully seeing if I can have something done to have it bustled to tea length for the reception, not sure how that will go but I’m hoping for the best!

  31. Melanie on May 17, 2011

This is the same dress I am wearing for my August wedding! The material is fabulous! It is like cotton but a little stiffer and fancier. The dress is so flattering! I have big boobs, but i’m only 5’1″ and weigh 120, so i was a little worried about how it would look…. it was AMAZING. definitely my dream gown. i got it in ivory, and i’m so happy with it!

And David’s Bridal has gotten so much better! Their Galina collection and Vera Wang are very nice. I tried on about 5 different dresses that were all unique and not typical, but THIS was the one.

Bonus!!!! It has POCKETS! and they now have a flower girl dress to match it…. with pockets also.

  32. Suzie on August 2, 2011

Ok so I love, lOvE, LOVE this dress. I bought this for my October wedding and could be happier. The price was right and the soft cottony material and pockets give it a fun unique flare if you are looking for something different. Im a little undecided on the underskirt though… you have the choice of fluffy or more fluffy. Im 5’2″ 125lbs and never been one for SUPER fluffy frilly princess dresses bc I feel like it makes my short self look stalky and wide. On the other hand the regular “fluffy” skirt almost looks deflated in the middle as the fluffieness is only at the bottom of the skirt. For those that have bought or worn this dress, I would like to hear some thoughts on this and possibly what you ended up choosing? I wonder what the girl in these pics wore????

  33. Bailey Methvin on September 15, 2011

This is actually my sisters wedding. I’m the blonde bridesmaid in the pictures. My sisters wedding was absolutely breathtaking in person. It really felt like you had gone back in time. Antiques everywhere, even the songs were perfect. Everything about the wedding including the pictures is and was just perfect.

  34. Mallory Israel on October 9, 2011

i JUST bought this dress for my wedding in January! I’m sooo excited! It looks soo good on :-) It’s very cute/vintage and perfect for what im going for!

  35. Heather on February 2, 2012

You know what it is, I think? Galina specifically. I felt the same way – anti DB. But I love the designer Maggie Sottero. Anyway, I’ve found recently that in a “blind test” (just pictures, no stores/designers) I gravitate towards images of Maggie Sottero dresses and Galina dresses. Who-da thunk? :) I think if anyone asks, I’ll just say “It’s a Galina” and smile.

  36. Jeannie on February 10, 2012

This is so my dress!! I have been in love with it for months and in just a few more i’ll be wearing it! I love it so much and it’s absolutely perfect!!! I also found the perfect earrings and necklack at TJ Maxx! SO EXICTED :D <3

  37. Katie on June 29, 2012

I need to know where you found those bridesmaid dresses!!! we want some unique at our wedding. do they have a website so i can view all their dresses??? email me!

  38. Bethany on September 21, 2013

Are you by any chance looking to sell your dress? They don’t have it in my size at David’s bridal so I am trying to find it elsewhere!!!

    • Ashley on October 25, 2013

I just bought that wedding dress at David’s Bridal for my September 2014 wedding and it is truly amazing. The style is trendy compared to the more traditional wedding dresses you see, at DB and elsewhere. Bethany – ask DB to call other stores to see if they have it in your size. I’m in Wisconsin and they shipped me my size from CT. It’s discontinued, but you can also still get it on the DB website, just search the product number. Good luck! Also, if any brides here have pics or recommendations for great necklaces to wear with it, let me know! I’m on the hunt!

  39. Hillary on August 18, 2015

They discontinued the dress and I ordered one of the last ones online without ever stepping foot inside a DB (where bridal love goes to die)!!! Love you all for agreeing that this is not your typical DB gown…it’s actually very fashionable and pretty! I am not big on embellishments and will likely be removing the bow, but the simple elegance in the material and design is all-too-rare at DB. Miracles do happen! Fingers crossed it works for me having ordered sight-unseen…BEAUTIFUL PICTURES!
