OSCAR FASHION PICKS | dresses by color | 2011 was brimming with bridal inspiration, if you like color. Also, finally, I understand why men love Scarlett Johansson.

So!  It’s Monday, peoples.  And, I mean, I don’t know if you know this, but something called the Oscars happened last night.

First off; thanks for sitting tight and repeatedly clicking “refresh” on your browser while we spent all morning gathering up the pretty… and pretty bad…  for today’s much anticipated (if we do say so ourselves) post on the Oscar 2011 fashion files!

But wait… just curious… did you watch the show?  Like, really watch it, through and through?  I kinda sorta did, but I was much more focused on the fashion, obvs.  Presentation and acceptance speeches – especially those made by the likes of Matthew McCaahnnoughhaigye and Christian Bale – often cause me to barf a little in my mouth, so I try to avoid them whenever possible.  Anyway, the picks are finally ready for all of your beady, judgmental little eyes to assess.  ;)  Hopefully I’m not the most judgmental of the roost… though I believe there’s a very, very good chance I might be… ;)

Ok, here are my absolute faves from the evening: Michelle Williams in Chanel Couture and Mila Kunis in Elie Saab.  Duh.

I mean, just LOOK at them.  By the way, I really like the ‘do Michelle’s been rocking; not everyone can pull off a pixie, Ginnifer Goodwin.

Ok, so while those are my faves… I must say, I actually had approximately a lot of favorites, and, more importantly, I spotted some truly fabulous bridal inspiration in last night’s festivities.  Tell me if you agree!

1: Javier Bardem, in Gucci, with Penélope Cruz, in L’Wren Scott; 2: Jennifer Lawrence, in Calvin Klein Collection, with Chopard jewels and a Judith Leiber clutch; 3: Sandra Bullock, in Vera Wang; 4: Anne Hathaway, in vintage Valentino Haute Couture, with Tiffany & Co. jewels, and Valentino Garavani

I appreciated Cate’s effort… but I hated her gown.  What think you?

On the flip-side… how much do you love Scarlett’s frock… eh?  Eh?  Just imagine it in white.  To.  Die.

1: Cate Blanchett, in Givenchy Haute Couture, with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels; 2: Scarlett Johansson, in Dolce & Gabbana; 3: Natalie Portman, in Rodarte, with Tiffany & Co. jewels + Jimmy Choo shoes; 4: Mila Kunis, in Elie Saab Couture, with Neil Lane jewels

Natalie Portman rocked the red carpet in her v-boatneck off the shoulder Rodarte; I think it was an excellent choice for her pregnant wittle tummy, not to mention her unusually heaving bosom.  Flaunt it while you got it, Nat.

In other news, I’m a little obsessed with Scarlett’s frock.  How ’bout you?  By the way, I’m also finally *getting* her appeal.  I never really found her that attractive, so that led me to ask my honey, one night, what it was, exactly that draws men to her… well, her *face.*  Actually, that’s wrong; I caught on, myself, and then asked the honey for confirmation.  Here’s how it went:

Me: It’s her lips, isn’t it.

My honey: Yup. That’s it.

So.  There you have it.  She’s got those *special* kind o’ lips.  Wink wink nudge nudge.

Next up, those dressed in shimmery white (and yes, that’s Michelle Williams again; why not?)…

1: Mandy Moore, in Monique Lhuillier, with Harry Winston jewels; 2: Michelle Williams, in Chanel Haute Couture, with Harry Winston jewels; 3: Celine Dion, in Armani Privé, with Bulgari jewels; 4: Keith Urban with Nicole Kidman, in Dior Haute Couture, with Pierre Hardy shoes

By the way, why is Mandy there?  Ah well, she’s looking quite purty in Monique Lhuillier, so I’ll give her a pass.  But Nicole… sigh.  Nicole.  I’m hating your look.  Haaaaating it.

Here’s some shimmery off-white frockage for you to digest:

1: Halle Berry, in Marchesa, with Neil Lane jewels; 2: Gwyneth Paltrow, in Calvin Klein Collection, with Louis Vuitton jewels; 3: Florence Welch, in Valentino Haute Couture; 4: Anne Hathaway, in Givenchy Haute Couture

Eh.  Not terrible.  But I definitely wouldn’t call any of them “hits.”  That’s a foursome of misses if you ask me.

On a final note, I think the black/grey dresses took a real back seat to all the fabulous color this year.  Except for maybe that lovely Romona Keveza… what do you think?

1: Hilary Swank, in Gucci Premiere, with Anna Hu jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch; 2: Helen Mirren, in Vivienne Westwood, with Cartier jewels and Sergio Rossi shoes

1: Reese Witherspoon, in Armani Privé, with Neil Lane jewels; 2: Oprah Winfrey, in Zac Posen; 3: Sharon Stone, in Dior; 4: Virginia Madsen, in Romona Keveza

No one went too avant-garde last night, which was actually kind of a let-down for me.  But I really loved what I saw, for the most part, and I couldn’t wait to share it with you today!

DYING TO KNOW what you think.  Any faves??

xoxo!  – Alison

Mila Kunis : best in show. While I didn’t love Cate Blanchett’s dress, it was the only one that felt actually interesting, I like that she took a risk, when pretty much no one else did.
Also loved Hailee Steinfeld and Anne’s Versace.

Loved Mila, Gwenyth and Scarlett!! Oh…and Cate Blanchett – she’s one of the most beautiful women in the world.
    Scar Jo was my favorite!

I also loved, loved, loved Michelle Williams’ look. And she looks like she INVENTED the pixie, which is how it looks when someone really pulls it off. Love the recap!

Hailee Steinfeld looked amazing. Age appropriate and stunning.

Also, Mandy Moore was there because she sung a nominated song from Tangled during the show :)

I watched the entire show and I must say the biggest reason why was for the fashion. Mila was stunning and I loved Nicole Kidman’s necklace. I also like the progression of textures and color of Hilary Swank’s dress but I would have liked it in another color.

I agree with most of your fashion picks (loved Mila, Natalie, & Michelle…and definitely appreciate what Cate Blanchett was wearing…don’t exactly love it, don’t exactly hate it, not sure what I think). But Scarlett Johansson, ughs! Something about her bugs me. Listening to her speak is pretty painful too, which is kind of problematic when you’re an actor. Also, didn’t like her dress…maybe in white it would look better. I guess I’m the only one…it seems like everyone else loved it. Sorry Alison! :)

Looooove Michelle Williams hair, and I agree – she was born to wear a pixie cut!

Also love her dress and think it would be PERFECT for a bride. Mila Kunis’ violet dress would be beautiful, too, in ivory maybe? Would die to wear either of them. And the Monique L. is lovely, too!

I think Mila Kunis was STUNNING in that lavender gown, but I don’t see the obsession with Michelle? That Chanel dress is a tad plain to me. And love Reese, but her dress was such a BORE. And agree- Cate Blanchett and Nicole- awful choices for dresses!

  17. LOVE Cate Blanchett. And although I loved the color of her gown… I did NOT love what resembled barnacles, growing on the shoulders and back.

As for Scarlett, I thought her gown was lovely- especially the color!! I too did not understand her appeal for awhile… until seeing her in “He’s Just Not Into You”

I’ll conclude by saying Mila Kunis definitely took home the gold for best dress! It was stunning.
