RUFFLES, FRILLS AND PETALS | wedding inspiration | Cakes + dresses + accessories. Also… The Bachelor. Sigh.

So, we watched The Bachelor last night.  (barf)

First of all… raise your hand if you want to sleep in a tree house in Africa, in an open field, among lions, tigers and elephants, seemingly sans a private bathroom, with a guy who seems incapable of making eye contact.

… If your hand is raised, I don’t really know what you’re trying to prove.  Because I don’t know one lady who thinks that would be an – in Chantal’s words – “exhilarating” experience.  Or, in Emily’s words, “my idea of a dream date.”  Hers, if I remember correctly, involved an elephant…?  I forget; I kept losing interest and focusing on things like cracks in the floor and redecorating, and breaking in the slightly stuck drawer-revealing sliding table top of our new West Elm coffee table.

Suffice it to say, I’m really, really getting close to my limit with this season of The Bachelor, so I’m glad it’s nearly over.  It’s just, it’s this season.  I know I’m not alone in this.  When I hear Brad flap his mouth, I just get so IRRITATED – and again, as I’ve said before, I think it’s just because he sounds so completely inauthentic.  Does anyone else notice that he says essentially the same thing to each girl, that it’s almost like they’re interchangeable, and that the same conversations could take place between any one of them?  He’s always saying, “I feel like the luckiest guy in the world” … “I feel more comfortable with her than I’ve ever felt with anyone” … “you’re the most wonderful girl in the world” … etc.

He’s always the happiest he’s ever been, or the luckiest he’s ever been, or the whatever he’s ever been, with EACH ONE OF THEM, all the time.  Somebody choke me with a spoon.

That’s why ruffles are on the dockett for today.  Tons and tons of ruffles.  Because they make me feel better.

The Vamoose boasts some truly lovely ruffled, petaled pieces that are sure to thrill bridesmaids everywhere!

Town and Country Weddings made some great, ruffly suggestions for short frocks this season:

That fabulous dress at the tippity top of this post is from Pronovias – I’ve featured it once before, but here it is on actress Amaia Salamanca.  Also, OMGILOVEIT.

… and that gorgeous cake?  Melody of Sweet & Saucy Shop tweeted one day and brought me to this fabulousness.  It’s been sitting in my “OMG” folder for a long time, and I kinda sorta themed this whole post around needing to bring this thing to your faces, asap-style.

OMG.  How much do you love?

Speaking of wedding cakes… if you haven’t heard of Maggie Austin, well then let me introduce you to one of the wedding cake leaders in the industry.  YOU’RE WELCOME.

Ok, now it’s time for some kiddie inspo…

J.Crew has some amazing ruffly numbers and accessories for your darling little flower girl. :)

Ok, that about wraps it up for now.  Hope you like. :)

By the by… I *will* be tuning in for the reunion special next week.  Don’t ask me why.  I think I feel a duty to report back to you guys… so think of my suffering as your fault.

Of course, if you all tell me in the comments that I’m allowed to skip it, then I’ll schedule something more enjoyable for next Monday night.  Maybe I’ll paint the walls and watch them dry.

xoxo!  – Alison

I love your writing style – you’re completely frank. I feel like I’m talking with a girlfriend (or in this case bitching about the Bachelor together! Brad = major loser!). Thank you for your wonderful posts. Your blog is so lovely!

PS – I want to hear your pick for the new bachelor/bachelorette.

  6. Chelsea Patricia on March 1, 2011

  14. Nicole on March 1, 2011

theres no way they actually slept in that tree house right??? as soon as i saw it i thought, oh cool … for a long dinner and to hang out, but when it comes time for sleep … you better put that girl in a hotel! or at least give her a tent or something. there was no roof on that place. please believe there were bugs and everything else. blah!

  15. Suzy on March 1, 2011

Sleeping in a tree house surrounded by lions is not a gift. Having no bathroom for many reasons is not a gift. Brad is definetly not a gift…but I will tell you what is a gift! Beautiful ruffles for everyone! Thanks for the post!

  16. Adrienne, Ruffles & Tweed on March 1, 2011

    Gorgeous, all of it!

And thank you for your hilarious and perfectly stated posts about the bachelor – it’s like you’re reading my mind…love it, and I can’t stop watching either for some reason. When they were in that stupid tree house, all I could think about was that they were drinking way too much wine to not have a bathroom – no one should be exhilarated by that.

  17. the Perfect Palette on March 1, 2011

Loved your take on yesterday’s Bachelor episode. You’re so right, Brad does really sound inauthenic most of the time! Was fun to read your thoughts about it!

  18. Marie @ Emici Bridal on March 1, 2011

I think I just died and went to ruffle heaven. Thank you Alison!

  19. Kate/MagnoliaRouge on March 2, 2011

Yep I think ruffles are a sure fire way to cheer a girl up… a close second to chocolate surely!!! And whilst we aren’t screening the Bachelor here right now I’m loving your take on it… I see it all online of course and have some idea of it all but now I have no interest in watching it so you’ve saved me some time!! Gotta say I do love the idea of a tree house in Africa though… sans Bachelor boy!

  20. Sabina on March 2, 2011

Those short dresses are absolutely amazing. Love them

  21. Ashley on March 2, 2011

Those cakes look too good to eat!!! and my daughter has the little J. Crew desss! Love their frilly mini clothes!

  22. Kristi on March 3, 2011

OMG the first thing I thought of when I saw them sleeping in that open air treehouse is where is the bathroom!!!! LOL!!!

And I agree ~ ruffles just make me (and you) happy!! And that dress – holy moly gorgeousness!!! Absolutely love it! And that first cake too.

  23. naoise -OneFabDay on March 3, 2011
