REAL WEDDING | Joe + Jennifer at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center | In Lady Gaga’s words… JUST DANCE.

Ok.  I think I should warn you about two things:

1) This wedding is AMAZEBALLS.

2) I’m a ball of mush at this point.  Seriously, if you could see me right now, you’d probably be like, “Whoa, she looks like she’s been crying for three days.“  You’d probably also observe my attire, and follow up that last statement with, “Look at her, she’s too emotional to even get dressed for the day!“  And, to your first point I’d say: “I made the mistake of arranging this wedding to the tune of an Adele-centric Pandora Radio station.  I did not prepare myself for the emotional consequences of combining relationshippy music and touching wedding photos.  SORRY.”

But, to your second, much more hurtful statement, I’d say, “Please, step off, this is my blogging attire.  Yoga pants and a t-shirt my honey got from a Bar Mitzvah he attended at 13 is also known as appropriate work attire for full-time bloggers.  Can I get a what what, if you know what I’m talking about?  … What’s that?  No one knows what I’m talking about?  And what’s that?  Don’t end a sentence with a preposition?  Oh… ok.”

ANYWHO.  Nessa Kessinger – the fabulous photographer responsible for today’s wedding – and I have been so excited to share this incredible day with your faces for quite some time, and we’re *so excited* that the day has finally come!  Now listen – I heart Nessa for a whole slew of reasons; she’s lovely, she’s adorable, she’s hilarious… and she happens to take pretty decent pictures, too.  ;)  No, but seriously, Nessa knows how to tell the story of your wedding day, and, once you see it all put together, it’s got to be the most beautiful thing in the world to scroll through.  Not everyone can do this; it’s an incredible skill, knowing just the right moments, the right angles, the right lighting, the right everything… and Nessa’s got that down.  Just wait… you’ll see.

By the way, aside from the storytelling factor, I’ve got to say that my favorite thing about this wedding is the freaking DANCING.  I obsess over weddings that scream, “FUN WAS HAD ON THIS DAY.”  There really is nothing more important in my opinion, than that.

Alrighty… enjoy!

A few words from our bride, Jennifer:

The only thing that I would say is that Joe and I wanted a simple wedding without all the fu-fu, so we chose a venue with natural beauty and lots of space for our long guest list. Our main focus for the day was to have a blast to not only celebrate the day of our marriage, but also all of the hard work and stress that went into the planning. Even though it was HOT that day, everyone had a blast and love the photos that were captured.

Now… break it down!

Sometimes… when you have actual *fun* at your wedding, things can get a little… ummm… hot…

… But guess what?  There’s nothin’ wrong with stripping down and getting comfortable.

Now that’s what I call a WEDDING.

Tell me, what’s the most important thing about a wedding day, in your opinion?  I think you know where my head’s at. :)

xoxo!  – Alison

This couple had the right idea. Having a good time on our wedding day is the number 1 thing we are concerned with. It’s really all that matters. (Well, that, and that our guests have a good time too, of course.) :D

  2. Katie Smith on March 3, 2011

I adore this wedding! So fun and very “real”.

The most important thing for us, was to make sure everyone had a good time (including my husband and myself!). So, we made sure we had a really kickin’ band ;) It got people out and dancing and having a really good time. We also wanted to make sure we had really good food.

I’m a foodie and hate sending people home hungry, or unhappy with their food choices. So we had passed hors d’œuvres so that way we could have more of a variety and keep with the relaxed, fun atmosphere.

We were also blessed to have access to my Grandparents’s 85 acre estate in the farm country of Lancaster, PA. I have to agree with Jennifer that we didn’t want a ton of “fu fu” and were able to have it an incredibly beautiful farm.

For us personally, a good photographer was essential. After everyone leaves and the “wedding excitement” wears off, that’s all you have left! So investing in a good photographer is a must, and what I tell every bride that is getting married. It’s more important to have good pictures, instead of personalized cocktail napkins, but that’s me :)

  4. Nessa K on March 3, 2011

The dancing was seriously the best part to photograph – nobody gets people moving like a live band!

What gorgeous photos of a gorgeous wedding. The bride is so beautiful, and looks so romantic in that gown and veil. Just perfect.
Nessa is so hugely talented, and just masterful at framing.

  17. Emily on March 3, 2011

I have been admiring your blog for some time but since I am recently engaged I’ve been looking a little more closely for inspiration and I have to say this wedding is gorgeous!

My fiance and I certainly want everyone to have a great time. I want them to talk about how much fun they had at our wedding for weeks. They won’t remember the “fu-fu” stuff but they will remember how happy you looked and how much fun they had.

And I agree a GREAT photographer is key. A photographer that really captures the story of the day is so important!

    Absolutely love your blog!

  20. Rachel on March 3, 2011

Just had to say that I definitely LOLed at the bar mitzvah shirt. My fiancee still wears shirts he got at a friend’s bat mitzvah almost 20 years ago. He has multiples of it, and they’re almost see thru! But I have not worn them….

    And this wedding is GORGEOUS!

  21. Vicky @ Without A Hitch on March 4, 2011

I am loving the wedding dress, and I really like the fact that the bridesmaids dresses although the same colour are all a little bit different in style – great idea. The photographer has done a grand job!

I love outdoor weddings in contact with nature. Everyone seems so much more relaxed enjoying the sunshine and then the evening´s cool breeze. The little lamps on the trees just give it a magical touch!
