REAL BOUDOIR | Kim Kardashian meets the dark side, with hints of gold, lace, glitter and tulle | If you thought you knew what a boudoir shoot is, think again.

Happy Monday, friendlies!  Hope you had a nice weekend!  Aright enough niceties…

First off – sigh, I know, “Kim Kardashian, Alison?  Really?”  I know, I know.  I get it.  Someone who’s career launched out of a sex video, and who keeps that career going by knowingly exploiting that very thing that made her famous but who complains publicly every time a magazine shows a little nip *is not* someone to be admired here on TKB.  Totes with you on that.  But here’s the thing: Kim Kardashian, anti-modern-day-heroine that she is, definitely knows how to rock a smokey eye.  And that, ladies and gentlemen, happens to have been the look that inspired the makeup portion of today’s shoot.  And HOLY FACE, BATMAN, this girl looks GOOD.

K, moving on…

Today’s feature, submitted by beyond phenomenal boudoir photographer, Courtney Dellafiora – aka The Boudoir Vixen – is rocketing my socks straight off of my feet.  The shoot redefines traditional notions of ‘bridal boudoir’ and therefore makes my heart sing.

Here’s the thing; as we’ve discussed before, not every young lady is totes at ease with the idea of romping around in her skivvies on white linen sheets in the nicest hotel in town.  It’s a fact.  And, while I do love jaunting around half-naked in my own apartment, because where else can you do that? (that is, when the neighbors aren’t peeking in, which seems to have become ALWAYS, which is both frustrating and highly unsettling) I don’t even know if I’m all that comfortable with stripping down to my nothings in front of someone with a high definition camera snapping my every move.  And I’m essentially the boudoir blogger, people.  So yeah, I get the hesitations many of us feel.

Well, as always, I’m interested in making you feel better about your body, and feeling more at ease about a shoot of this nature, and that’s where today’s feature comes in!

If you don’t want to get – get NAKED (ugh, I think that was a Tommy Lee reference. barf) that’s not the end of your boudoir dreams.  Because, instead, you can throw on a pretty cami and a long full tulle skirt, search out a rustic venue and BAM, you’ve reconceptualized (a word?) what it means to have yourself your very own boudoir session.  P.S. – it’s not just about those three elements, of course; a fantastic photog is SOOOO KEY.  I’m telling you.  And, personally, I highly recommend great makeup and hair, because don’t you just want to rock it out of the park, grand slam style?

Now, soak up the inspiration…

Here are some words from Courtney on how this shoot came alive:

I had an idea to create a shoot themed around a “modern, rocker bride.” I wanted to do something a little different than the normal white/cream dress you normally see on a bride. I LOVE rock music and I love fashion and bridal couture. I wanted to combine all of those elements and create something different and beautiful, and prove that you can be different, but still elegant and stunning as a bride. I immediately thought of sweet Jewel to play the part. I knew she would be just perfect to make my vision come to life.  I asked my mom to make a black tulle skirt and we then paired it with one of Jewel’s tops and belts to create the “wedding dress” for the shoot. It came out better than I even imagined!!

I asked the genius Valerie of Southern Fete Event Planning to make a bouquet for me. I didn’t want real flowers.. I wanted different. I explained the theme I was going for and inspiration in my mind, and she of course delivered the most amazingly creative bouquet made of black lace and feathers! I wanted to be able to show that a bouquet can be creative as well. It doesn’t have to look like every other bouquet and Val proves that. I gave her a challenge and it pushed her to be creative, and in the end… turned out AMAZING and better than I could have hoped. I knew she would deliver as she ALWAYS does. I love her creativity!

I asked my sweet, dear friend and dream team member of my studio, Courtney Davis, to do Jewel’s hair/makeup for the shoot. I explained my ideas and told her I imagined Jewel’s makeup being a smokey “Kim Kardashian” eye with hints of gold. She OF COURSE brought that to life and created a masterpiece on Jewel’s face and with her hair. I have said this before and I will say it again and again…. Courtney Davis is a hair/makeup genius!!! She is truly THE  most incredibly talented stylist I have ever worked with. And I can say that in full confidence because I have worked with many. Not only is she good at what she does, but she is ALWAYS reliable and professional. Brides, don’t settle when it comes to your hair/mu for the wedding day… I have seen that happen WAY TOO MANY TIMES and it’s never a good thing. Never. Hire Courtney. ; ) (

I am SO proud of the result of this shoot. Pushing myself to be creative from time to time as an artist is so crucial to staying fresh and keeping my passion for photography alive. The photos are some of my favorites I have ever taken. I am so grateful that God made me an artist. I wouldn’t have it any other way and I truly give Him all of the credit for creating me with this gift that hold so dear to my heart and don’t take lightly.

Hey, Bambino… you’re with me on Kim Kardashian, right?  She’s like, so totally ridiculous.

Wait, what?

Did you seriously just wake me up from my Kim Kardashian dream?  Could you not tell that I was deeply enjoying myself?  Did that ear to ear smirk not give it away?

So NO, Alison.  No, I’m not “with you” on that.  I happen to like her… I happen to like her very, very much.

Sigh.  Aright now that I’m up, let’s play, I guess.  Or something.

Well, anyway, as I was saying…

I’m seriously loving the hell outta this shoot, not only because it’s so off the beaten path of what we traditionally imagine boudoir to be, but because it’s so EXQUISITELY BEAUTIFUL AND SUPERBLY EXECUTED!

What think you?

xoxo!  – Alison

  1. Laura *You Stir Me* on May 16, 2011

um, I think I love it. I think it’s ruined all other boudoir shoots for me:) The lace around her head and the soft yet sultry makeup is just too perfect!

  2. Chelsea on May 16, 2011

Gorgeous, but not loving the super red/pink lipstick with the smokey eyes too. It’s gotta be one or the other for me.

Otherwise, all others are so demure, but fierce. Yeah, I said it.

  3. Allen Taylor on May 16, 2011

Nice portraits, but it’s not boudoir.

  4. Simply by Tamara Nicole on May 16, 2011

Oh my goodness I love this shoot! The model is gorgeous, and I love the lace and the makeup is fantastic. Ok and I will admit I kinda like Kim . . . shhhh don’t tell anyone!

  5. Alison on May 16, 2011

Laura – The lace around her head KILLS ME. I’m in love. I think we’re all obsessed with it :)

Chelsea – I do know what you mean; I happen to loooove the look in this particular shoot – I think it was executed so perfectly! But outside of this shoot, I typically don’t adore strong makeup on more than one spot on the face. So I get ya!

Allen – They are nice, aren’t they? ;)

Tamara – You’re allowed to like KK – the last thing I want is for everyone to agree with me!!! :)

  6. Brent @ Live View Studios on May 16, 2011

Oh wow – I absolutely LOVE this. What great inspiration!

  7. Jen on May 16, 2011

I love this. Allen: I think a boudoir shoot is whatever you want it to be. I think it’s up to the girl what she wants to wear and what she feels she looks great in, and that that’s the most important thing.

Anyway, great shoot! I’m inspired to do one of my own now, which is not what I was saying immediately before seeing this shoot. My fiance’s might be pretty lucky I saw this post ;)

  8. Courtney Dellafiora on May 16, 2011

EEK! Thank you so much Alison!!!!! I absolutely love everything you wrote too! Haha you’re JUST PLAIN FREAKIN AWESOME. I hope to meet you someday!!! Thank you so much for all of the kind words!!!! SIIIIIGH. Many <3s to you. Oh and PS I will be in NYC in July if you ever want to meet up!!!!

  9. Emma on May 16, 2011

How cool is this???!!! Definitely redefines what I imagine when I think of boudoir now! Oh, and love the puppy, AS ALWAYS!

  10. Alison on May 16, 2011

Courtney – OMG, the pleasure’s seriously all mine. You did such an amazing job with this shoot. Start to finish. It’s beyond inspiring!

Emma – So glad to hear that! It’s really whatever you make of it :) Oh, and The B loves you, too. ;)

  11. Alicia @CharityWedding on May 16, 2011

This is absolutely gorgeous! That girl is stunning! I think I could get on board with a boudoir such as this.

  12. Katie Smith on May 16, 2011

Holy santa! First off, that model is stunning! I mean, just drop dead gorgeous! I love everything about this shoot, especially the lace masks she has on. A whole different take on boudoir.

I did a swimsuit shoot as part of my boudoir, which was loads of fun, and kind of a different take on it. As long as you like yourself in your bathing suit :-P

    Thanks for sharing!

  13. I’m so in love with the bouquet, the model, the lace, the smokey eye, the red lips, the nude lips… ok pretty much everything! I’m so inspired to do my own! Just Beautiful!

  14. Claire on May 16, 2011

    SHE’S SO GORGEOUS, my god.

  15. daizy on May 16, 2011

I love the dog! So cute!

  16. Jamie L. on May 16, 2011

My fav part of her look is the lace veils she’s wearing, they’re the PERFECT touch. I never even thought of a black lace veil before but I’m in love with these. I think I need one to just walk around in my house with :-)

  17. Madison on May 16, 2011

oh wow love this shoot and what a stunning model! loving the black lace.

  18. Beth on May 16, 2011

She is ABSOLUTELY. GORGEOUS!!! Love everything about it! Sooo with you on KK – honey puhleese! I do enjoy Kourtney though;)

  19. Emma on May 16, 2011

Wait.. that’s not really Kim Kardashian. Is it? I thought she had dark brown eyes.

  20. Alison on May 16, 2011

Lauren H. – You SHOULD do your own! I mean, just look how amazeballs these things can turn out. I’m a fan :)

Alicia, Katie and Madison – I think we can all agree that this girl is stunning and we all want to be her in an alternate life. Settled. ;)

Emma – :) nope, that’s Jewel. The makeup for the shoot was inspired by Kim Kard’s typical look :) Pretty, huh?

Jamie L. – feelin’ you on the veils, LIKE CRAZY.

Beth – Kourtney is a laugh riot. Her monotone one liners are priceless, as is her continued ‘belief’ in The Disick. She’s essentially the Spencer/Heidi factor for The K’s. Ew, I just talked about waaaaay too much reality television for one blog post. Forgive?

  21. Lena on May 16, 2011

JESUS, how GORGEOUS! Maybe Miss Kardashian isn’t going to change the world, but it’s hard to deny girl’s got assets, and why not use her as a little boudoir inspiration? If it makes a shoot THIS STUNNING, I say bring on Kim!

Also, that ear to ear grin makes my heart MELT. I shivered from cute right here in my office. Everyone else officially thinks I’m crazy.

  22. Cocroft & Delbridge on May 16, 2011

This model is STUNNING…her eyes are unreal especially with the smoky eye! :) The black veil surrounding her face in so incredible. I also love that her beauty is contrasted by the super raw background. Ugh ok…I need to stop looking at these haha.

  23. Kristi on May 16, 2011

Oh I do love this!!! I love the lace and the tulle! Her smoky eyes are stunning and the soft lip gorgeous! The touches of gold and sparkle add just the right amount of bling without being overdone. Just perfection really ;-)))

  24. Marie @ Emici Bridal on May 16, 2011

I think you should absolutely do one! Just look at these pics! I once saw a picture of my great, great aunt who is loooong gone, she’s in a boudoir setting that was fairly risqué at her time. It is one of the best photos I have ever seen.

  25. WOW i love this shoot! she is gorgeous and the theme is great! ahh i want to do a shoot like this!

  26. Ashley Goodwin on May 16, 2011

Oh, Im DYING over these! SO different than a typical boudoir shoot, gorgeous! I love all of the colors, especially with her hair, and the mix of the rust and glitter! Fab! & I LOVEEEE me some Kim K! :)

  27. Kristen on May 16, 2011

Beautiful model and I love the different take on boudoir. Makes me think about doing one for my fiancee, because I’m SO not getting totally naked for a shoot.

Bambino looks like he’s smiling when he’s sleeping…too cute as always.

  28. Sandra Downie on May 17, 2011

This is amazing…beautiful girl, beautiful feel, beautiful shoot…so inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing!

  29. Lauren Elise on May 17, 2011

The photography is insane! I never would have called this boudoir without you calling it boudoir…that’s what I love about it!

  30. ashley barnett on May 18, 2011

Wow this blew me away!! Everything about this shoot is so inspiring. I love that she took a beautiful girl and edged her up with the perfect amount of dark and smoky, but she still looks beautiful and happy. love!!!!

  31. Darren on May 22, 2011

  32. sharon on June 2, 2011
