Real Housewives of New Jersey attacked my eyes again last night. Please, someone teach me how to resist, without canceling our Bravo feed entirely.
In other news, you guys are gonna get *real quick* why I love this engagement shoot. It should be rather apparent by the third or so picture in. And if you don’t get it real quick, well, then you probably don’t know me all that well, which hurts. Why you gon’ do me like that, yo? If you’re the one-to-three people who don’t know why I love this shoot, well I’m just gonna sit here and wait for you to catch the reason, as that will be your punishment for not knowing me.
(It’s the dogs. The dogs are why I love it.)
(Well, it’s also the fact that our friends Vania and Christine of Simply Bloom were behind the camera. So, two reasons.)
(Actually three. This shoot is COLORTASTIC and me likey things that can be described as such.)
(Well, four. It’s four. I like everything. Can “everything” be categorized as “four?” I’m doing it – I’m calling it four.)
Engagement shoots aren’t just about getting pictures taken. They’re about capturing the *you* that the two of you are, as a couple, right now, during what is very likely a uniquely exciting, emotional and joyous time in both of your lives. You’re getting married! YOU! YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED! I know, it’s awesome! And wouldn’t you like to capture the couple that the two of you are right now, by making your engagement shoot represent/reflect you in some way?
I believe in that concept. And today’s shoot, given to us by the ladies of Simply Bloom Photography, is a prime example of how to execute it.
Before we get into it, here are some words from Vania and Christine on just how perfect this setting was for Jenn and Cody:
Amusement parks are said to have been around since the 1500′s, and to this day they are still just as colorful, fun, and current. There is something timeless about these multicolored , quirky places; something that inevitably lightens one’s heart. Can you smell the bright candied apples & sugary cotton candy? Jenn & Cody chose this particular location for their D.C. engagement shoot which allowed them to have a backdrop as bright and as fun as they are. This setting painted Jenn & Cody as the protagonists in their own love story book. The golden haired princess hopelessly in love with her dapper hero, in a world all their own…
Quick tip: I highly recommend carving your initials or something like this…
… into something like that ↑. Or, into your lovey dovey vacation hotel room which we did last year shhh I didn’t say that. P.S. – we’re staying in the same room this year. Yes, it’s an awesome feeling for some reason.
Ok, so if you haven’t guessed it alread- ok I know EVERYONE guessed it, this is dumb. :) So, on that note, I’m mixing it up a little today, puppy-wise. I know y’all love PuppyPants’ punim, but I seriously couldn’t resist a dose of THIS, via Stockholm Streetstyle:
AAAAAHHHHHH. I know, so cute. Here’s the main reason why I like it; I identify with it, wholeheartedly. Bambino’s got a rogue leg; it goes everywhere save for safely tucked beneath him. Here’s a taste:
So it’s refreshing to know he’s like so totally not alone in this! ;) He also tends to have *a lot* more energy immediately after he poops… but that… umm… that makes a lot of sense to me.
Back on track… one last bit of cuteness before we start chatting about all of this…
Anywho, what do you think of today’s shoot? Do you dig the idea of creating an engagement shoot around who you are as a couple?
xoxo! – Alison

* AFTERNOON UPDATE *
¡TESSA KIM GIVEAWAY WINNER + OTHER GIVEAWAY NEWS!
The moment for which you’ve all been waiting so patiently… the winner of our Tessa Kim accessory giveaway is:
(Her comment: April 20, 2011 – “I love the Rhinestone and beaded twist dress sash/headband. My dress has antique style lace and beading and just got a pair of shoes with some vintage sparkle to them. This would complete the day and add to the magic.”)
Congrats, Miss Jenna! You’re one lucky lady!
And just for personal, totally selfish kicks, here’s one of my absolute favorite comments from this giveaway. (See? I really do read every single thing you all say to me, and I for reals love you all for it, like crazy.)
On April 15, 2011, Kathryn, you said “I adore the Blue flora birdcage veil headpiece. I will be wearing light blue (traditional Irish color) and this will be perfect with my dress. As this is not my first wedding, I still want to look beautiful and have many, but not all, of the amenities of a (first time) bride. This beautiful headpiece will be my version of a veil, without hiding my face or hair.
Thank you Knotty Bride for sending me updates on Facebook. I get to see more ideas and inspiration than I ever would have imagined from just ‘liking’ you.”
Kathryn, wherever you are, I heart you and that’s truly the kind of thing that makes my entire day. Congratulations on your impending nuptials! :) Also, best of luck in our other giveaways, since I totally just mentioned you but you didn’t win anything. Sorry…? But seriously thanks so much for the kind words. They really mean a lot.
To every single one of you: I love all of your comments, nice or antagonistic, thought-provoking or lovey dovey, they never go unappreciated. You have no idea how much I love bringing you guys the inspo on the daily, and then hearing your feedback, regardless of what you have to say. It’s like, my favorite part. I really love you guys, and I hope each and every one of you out there wins something super fancy and wonderful on TKB one day! If that’s even possible. I’ll certainly strive for it. :)
P.S. – Can’t wait to announce our letterpress giveaway winner. Promise I won’t make you wait too long. :)
P.P.S. – Did someone say ANOTHER SARAH SEVEN GIVEAWAY? For real? YES. Sarah liked how the other one went so much, that she decided we should hold another one. Because hey, why not, right. No, I know, I can’t believe it either.
xoxo as always! – Alison
