RUSTIC DIY MILL WEDDING | Where simplicity meets succulents meets pies meets amazeballs meets Kim Kardashian… wait what?

So, first off, let me show you what it feels like in the city right now when you’re the kind of person who resists turning on the a/c until it’s ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY because what the heck is up with these electricity bills these days AMIRITE:

↑ Those two are besties.  A/c will go on pretty soon because I’m a sucker for a spoiled puppy.

Ok so I’m, uhh, I’m a little excited right now, and this might come as a shock, but it’s not because Khloe Kardashian just announced that her sister Kim – and I quote – “is busy planning Royal Wedding No. 2.”  Nope, it’s not because of that.  In fact I’m sure you realize that it’s in spite of that.  Because shut the eff up Kardashians.  But anyway, seeing as I do not allow those born of porn star dynasties to trip up my flow… I soldier on.  So, the actual reason I woke up fully psyched (please, not to be confused with the way in which men wake up *fully psyched*… if ya know what I mean wink wink nudge nudge I’m terrible) is because I’ve got a date with my lovely colleague Anne Chertoff to preview Vera Wang’s Spring 2012 bridal collection tonight and oohhhh these things always a-make a-me crazy.  I’m sitting here in a full on anticipation tizzy, aaaaand I’m looking forward to reporting back to you guys :)

But back to Kim Kardashian for another second…

She’s killing me, you guys.  She’s killing me.  And not in that ‘killing me with laughter’ kind of fun way to be killed.  I mean in the way that someone kills you.  Latest news is that she wants a wedding BIGGER THAN THE ROYALS’.  If that doesn’t scream ‘this is really just all about showmanship and hardly about our love, because I’m 30 and I’m afraid of being alone the rest of my life so I’m marrying a big baby and hoping for the best’ then I don’t know what does. That’s my take.  Because seriously, Kim, you’re constantly freaking out about your age and marriage.  But you know what?  The average age of women who are getting married for the first time has become 30 years old.  Yup, that’s the average age these days.  Ok, but anyway, let’s say, just for a second, that they are, in fact, deeply in love.  What’s the rush to get married after 6 months?  Is it the fact that Khloe did if first, and in record time?  I just don’t get rushing into it.  Also, he looks like he might have been dropped a few times as a baby.  But that’s neither here nor there nor anywhere.

Anywhozit, TODAY’S WEDDING.  Submitted by Jessica of Session Nine Photographers, it’s a DIY stunner that screams ‘keep it simple, keep it chill, keep it real.’  Also, I’m obsessed with the details.  Obsessed.  They’re few, and they’re perfect.

A few words from Jessica of Session Nine:

Kari and Brian’s wedding took place at the Shenandoah Mill in Gilbert, AZ. This 1920′s mill was transported in pieces from Virginia and completely restored to the location that it stands in today!

From our lovely bride, Kari:

For our day, I desired a quaint feel.  I loved the idea of having a barn but wasn’t sure what we would be able to find around Chandler, Arizona where my family is from. Fortunately, we found the grist mill called Shenandoah Mills which had a lovely outdoor area and indoor barn like feel.  I was truly amazed at how the wedding came together. From the flowers to the pot pies to the centerpieces, the day was more than what I had expected.  As I prepared for the day, I gathered tons of pictures from wedding blogs and I was amazed at how all the ideas I had saved became a reality. I had tons of support from my family, friends, and my groom!   I hope you enjoy sharing in our day!

And for anyone who was potentially wondering what was UP with that scowl on Bambino’s punim yesterday, it was purely a lucky catch… as you can see by the expression I caught a split second later:

Further evidence of his tendency towards smiles, if it pleases the court:

:)

Ok, on a final note – even given all the above Kardashian stuff, and yesterday’s full on rant… you KNOW I’ll be tuning in to Kim Kardashian’s wedding, right.  Duh.  It’s sort of one of those things that’s impossible to resist, no matter how much I don’t approve.  And I kinda sorta hate myself for it.  (This is probably not #winning.)

Will you be able to resist to tuning in?  I mean, she wants to make her wedding a bigger deal than that Royal one.  It’s pulling me in.

On a final final note, what do you think of today’s killer wedding, y’all?  Are you loving those escort card treats?  Are you digging the simplicity?

xoxo!  – Alison

    That cake is beyond gorgeous.

I agree with you 100%- anyone trying to out do the royals, which is clearly impossible by the way because you are NOT royal, is just trying to create a show not trying to marry the man of their dreams. Considering she has had about 62 relationships in the 6 mo before she started dating her fiance should show her that maybe she should take things slow before she makes a multi-million dollar mockery of herself. Also she should take note from the Royals who could have very well gone out of control but were pretty conservative by royal standards. Ew, they make me sick. But I sure will watch too.

Let’s list this out in numerical order again, now, shall we?
    1. VERA FREAKING WANG HOLY GOD I’M DYING. Please plant a camera on your shirt so I can be there too, virtually. K thanks?
    2. Puppy in front of fan = heart melting. How adorable! Do you just sit and stare at your pups all day? Because I sometimes do that with my dog. They are marvelous creatures.
    3. Most importantly, if I could, I’d punch Kim K right in her HUGE badonkadonk. (and not in a sexy way, like I’d kick her). This is SO apparent that she’s just trying to have the best show. Guess what, dear Kimmy, MARRIAGE ISN’T A SHOW. Marriage is real life. It’s not like one of your crappy reality shows. Kate, given the choice, would have shoved those cameras out the door and gotten married somewhere in the English countryside. Marriage, love, and life isn’t all about what the biggest and best thing out there is. It’s really sad, you know. She’s so focused on being America’s princess that she is forgetting what really matters. And you know what? I give it 6 months, at best.

It’s sad when I’m a wedding planner and the photos I was drawn to were the adorable puppy! I WANT TO STEAL HIM. Sorry, back to seriousness, I love the fabric squares on the tables, nice touch!

Alicia – omigod so true. All of it. You are a sensemaker, much in the way Mentos is a freshmaker. Or something.

Laura – right? I know! I’m especially smitten with the bottom of the gown, in the back. Unique!

Claire – yup, I’m more than a little excited ;)

SSE – Those fabric squares are such a great addition to the table decor. I totes agree! Such lovely pops of color :)

First, this wedding rocks my world. I want to have a really simple, intimate day, with my close relatives and friends in a setting just like this one. This really is a perfect wedding to me. But that’s just my 2 cents. :)

And about KK – I definitely agree with what you said, especially about how they’re rushing into getting married. I’ve been with my hubbie-to-be for a little over 2 and a half years and we’re getting married spring of 2012. We know we love one another, and that we want to get married, but we don’t feel any internal, or external, pressure to get it all done in a flash. I don’t mean to talk down about anyone who gets married very soon after they’ve met, I just don’t really understand why there’s such a rush to get it all done.

Last thing – your pup is killing me in that *good way* you talked about. ;)

Bee – I looove the flowers, too. They’re just the prettiest ever. And so casual!

Lauren – I think I can easily agree with everything you said. :)

Tara – rock on :) You gotta do YOU! P.S. – you sound like you’ve definitely got your head screwed on right. I like it :)

This was a really good post and quite hilarious, I might add! I love the dog in front of the fan had me dying with laughter and it’s so representative of how I feel about my own electric bill!

As for Kim K getting married and wanting to outdo the Royals, I could just scream at the thought and it get my blood boiling just thinking about it. We love the glitz, glamor, and beauty of the wedding day but the marriage last longer than that and is a lot of work. If you’re getting married for show or to “outdo” someone else’s wedding, then you may as well NOT!!! I don’t plan on watching it at all.

I LOVE everything about this wedding! So simple and sweet and you can tell so much care went into the details. Beautiful!

On another note, your sense of humor kills me…and I mean that in a good way ;-) When I heard her ring is estimated at something like $20 mil I just about peed myself. WTH? Wouldn’t it be better to donate that money to a needy cause? Oh wait, we’re talking about the Kardashians…my bad ;-)

Thank goodness for this gorgeous, down to Earth wedding-it saved me from my head exploding re: Miss K’s impending summer blockbuster, excuse me, I mean wedding, and Bambino’s ADORABLE DAMN FACE!!

Yeah, Kim planning a blowout summer wedding with a start time of almost JUNE is crazy. I get it that she won’t actually PLAN it, persay, but still. And 6 months? It’s just not enough time to get to know each other, especially when you’re constantly flitting around doing TV promotions or playing basketball.

Bottom line, I am clearly as irritated by this union as you.

What I’m not irritated by is the scoop on Vera you’ll bring back! Horrrray!

    1. Allison. I love the way you blog. You speak-a my language. Seriously. Your words and made up words are like extensions of my everyday vernacular. You = Amazeballs :)

    2. Kim Kardashian can take a flying leap and donate both the costs of her wedding and impending divorce to a charity instead.

    3. Bambino! need i say more???

    4. This wedding is an extension of my upcoming wedding. Fo shiz’. I’ve just put the deposit down on a 160 acre farm. Can’t wait.

    m’k. Bye.

Oh and btw 6 months is not nearly enough time to merit getting married to someone. That is practically a one night stand. Especially in Star-Land. I’ve been with my fella for 7.5 years. By the time we get married, it will be just shy of 9. And thank goodness I waited cause it let us (being high school sweethearts) grow up, and have our big fights and finally come out to a place that does not suck.

    Alison,
I’m with you on the Kim K stuff. It’s kind of like a car crash….you don’t want to look but you just can’t resist sneaking a peek! Uuggg!! She’s a piece of work.

Anyway, beautiful DIY wedding. I adore rustic….and this Mason jar mugs! Love them! Even though is was in AZ, I can totally see all of this in Maine where I live. Love it all!

Oh. And Puupypants is adorable as always. Gotta love that fan!

The wedding featured here was so beautiful, I especially loved the wedding cake. Makes me want to have one but I won’t give in ;)

As far as Kimmie is concerned, if she’s found love that is great. But I agree, why not make it about the love and less about “I have to be the best at everything.” Come the fck on!
