SUCCULENTS + LOVE | My Top 10 Most Cherished Ways to Dress Up Your Wedding in Succulents. Also, The Bachelorette & The Bambeeen.

You guys… I’m really starting to think that Ashley might not be over Bentley yet.

Which means she’s probably neg-lacting all those others guys.  Which is sad because about one or two of them actually would consider dating her, potentially for close to a year.  Now, I realize I don’t have much to go on re: my Bentley suspicions, other than her bringing him up incessantly in every interview and discussing with Chrisharrison their very real potential for dot dot dot, and how she spends critical get-to-know-one-another-date time measuring her current date’s openness to her mentioning the fact that she misses Bentley with everything in her being but that they’re doing a great job helping her get through those difficult emotions, and how she’s already getting out of her hot date clothes and putting on pjs and reading glasses with dates because she wants to make it extra super crystal clear that she’s not going to put much effort into a relationship with non-Bentleys because she’s already lost her one true love in this one life we have… but the following exchange at the end of last night’s episode made me think that maybe, just maybe, he might still be on her mind:

Chrisharrison: “He’s in this hotel…

Ashley Herbert: “…… SHUT.  UP.

And you know what?  That really chaps my a$$.

*QUICK-FIRE SPECULATION ROUND (plus intermittent relationship advice)*

Ames is too perfect to be an actual real-life person, or at least is very confused about who he is, beyond his scholarly, worldly exterior.  He’s kind enough, but I suspect he doesn’t know himself very well and feels that accomplishments and great stories are what make a person.  He’s super adorable and he can suck you in, and I fell in love with his adorableness and wit while watching their date, but I really believe that he’s the kind of person who was raised to value accomplishments only, and when it comes to being open and understanding others, he likely has no real understanding or experience.  Or he’s not into girls.  Trust me, because I’ve been in a relationship with his doppelganger (minus that last note… I think).

Dude who everyone thinks is too happy including Ashley when they got down to it: What’s wrong with being happy all the time?  Well, maybe everything.  But he seems genuine.  Though I can understand why that would chap some peoples’ a$$es.

Constantine: I enjoyed him, and so did honey, in fact, he’s a standout favorite of honey’s after he saw their date.  But two things irked me: 1) he said “I’m excited for Ashley to fit into my life… fit into my family” and 2) the guys all talked about him having great game.  Those are yucky things that could be pretty bad signs of what he expects and who he is.  Or I could be judging this guy too hard.

West: Northeast is one of the two guys who would have sincerely dated Ashley for at least six months after the show before moving on.  And she sent him home.  It’s like she’s allergic to quality, sincere guys who are interested in her.  Life isn’t about Jabbawockeez dance moves and spontaneous Far East Movement concerts and dot dot dot.  Life is about being happy, trusting someone, and connecting with someone who wants to connect with you.  Unless Ashley had absolutely no chemistry with Southwest, I cannot excuse her for punishing him for losing his wife and thinking he wouldn’t be open to a new relationship.  I guarantee she based much of her decision on the fact that Flyoverstate hesitated when she asked him if he was ready/had moved on, and that his answer wasn’t “I’m totally over my dead wife.  LET’S DO THIS!”  But isn’t a heartfelt, somewhat thoughtful but overall seemingly healed type of answer the PERFECT ANSWER to her question?  Whatever, he’s gone.  It is what it is.

As we know, at the end of last night’s episode, Chrisharrison (remember that that is his name, because his name is not Chris Harrison, it is Chrisharrison) tells Ashley that there’s a hotel room that holds something she wants.  Is it:

A) Brad Womack, because he realizes he made a mistake but knows for sure this time

B) Michelle Money, to scold her for not heeding her warning and also to give her makeup and hair lessons on how to handle humidity in Thailand

C) an actual Bentley vehicle so that Chrisharrison can say “PSYCHE!” when she finds out it’s not the human Bentley

D) Bentley, because that would per-fact.

E) Jesus.

Anyway, moving right along as we always do, segue or no segue…

You guys get it.  You know I love succulents, it’s a well-known fact.  And it’s rather time I slam some succulent love directly into your faces, no-mercy-style.  Starting with, and in NO PARTICULAR ORDER even though I called this a Top 10 List…

1. Low to the ground centerpieces that allow for zee clinking of zee glasses between zee guests – something worth considering…

Here’s a better look at the crazy pretty combo of rustic decor + succulent lovin’…

2. Gorgeous gorgeousness via Stephanie Williams’ This Modern Romance blog…

3. More inspo via {JooJoo} on a window sill…

4. There’s this mothereffing hunk of pretty from Jennifer Eileen Photography and with help from Enjoy Events, with gold and of course succulents involved so I’m going insane over it…

5. Escort card perfection by Kelly of Bash, Please:

6. A novel idea for fans of the written word…

7. His and hers busts for succulent holding…

The head vases can be purchased here at Floral Art.

8. Here’s some fantastic decor that pretty much blows my mind, again from Jennifer Eileen Photography

9. A simple setting of succulents in stoneware pots

… as well as succulents and cake stands.  A marriage made in heaven.

10. My girls over at Style Unveiled featured a shoot with massive succulent love…

10.5. :) Then there is, of course, the brilliance that is our fantastic resident DIY blogger, Lauren Elise, who brought us this DIY fabulousness

By the way, The Bam won’t leave me alone today.  He keep staring up at me, then repositioning himself, then staring up at me again, from a new angle, and longingly.  With whimpering.  Sux.  Because I’d absolutely LOVE to hold him a-like a-so…

all the live long day (that’s his papa holding him)…

But instead, most of the time I just have to let him do this…

Soooooo…. any thoughts on anything going on in this post?  Have at it.  Whatever you’re feelin’.  That’s clearly my MO.

By the by, that wedding we attended in Laguna a week or so ago?  They’re in the exact same area of Thailand where Ashley twitted around and generally was a ridiculous.  I’m sure they’re spending their time there much more wisely and without sulking over lost loves.

On a final note… do me a favor: no more tutu flower girl dresses that result in little girls’ torsos popping out where it counts.  I just feel like a creep every single time I see that.  (Tutu dresses are great; just not the low rida ones, if you’re pickin’ up what I’m puttin’ down.)

xoxo!  – Alison

Love all of this...

You have a freckle triangle on your leg. I do too! I know I should have gotten something much more profound out of this post, but I’m stuck on the triangle. So it is what it is :)

  2. Chelsea on June 14, 2011

Hellooooo, succulent bouquet is the cat’s meow. Love the his and hers busts.

  3. Sarah on June 14, 2011

(resums comment-stalking) OK, I gets you about the tutu now. I don’t approve of that or cutting holes out of books for any reason! Not even for pretty succulents.

  4. Alison on June 14, 2011

J – LOL. I have a square freckle on my ankle. Maybe one day I’ll share that one. If you have a square freckle on your ankle too THEN WE WERE SEPARATED AT BIRTH. ;) P.S. – I heart you and your comments. They rule.

Chelsea – How friggin’ RAD are those busts, right? I have a feeling they’re going to be popping up everywhere, *only in part* as a result of me blogging them (pats self on the back).

Sarah – Don’t ever stop. Don’t ever, ever stop. I heart your comments. And I can see you on the books, truly. I just have to say, and this may be terrible, but I simply adore creative ways to feature succulents, even if it’s inside of ruined books. Is that terrible? Sigh. It is what it is. ;)

  5. The Perfect Palette on June 14, 2011

Um yes, Bentley and his damn … need to just seriously stay away from bachelorette land. If he comes back I seriously will have a field day with that. I mean, he has no business there. Ashley seriously has issues. Besides being a very poor judge of character, she also clearly has some serious self esteem issues. Sadly, the world is full of girls like these. Enjoyed your ramblings! xo, Chrissy.

  6. Andrea on June 14, 2011

This post regarding The Bachelorette might just be the funniest (and unfortunately most accurate) I have ever read. The ridiculousness that has occurred through this season has far surpassed the stupidity of past seasons. Ashley might just be the most pathetic bachelorette yet….
Did you count how many times she said the name, “Bentley”? Frankly, at this point, I think he is my hero.

  7. Alison on June 14, 2011

Chrissy – OMG you’re so right about her. Though I think the roast might have been a maaaajor contributor to A’s absolute loss of sanity. ;)

Andrea – Your comment made me smile ear to ear. :) I’m glad you feel that way, and I’m even gladerer that you shared it with me ;) Ashley is a ridiculous!

  8. alicia@Charitywedding on June 14, 2011

I haven’t been watching the Bachelorette because I get so pissed when they don’t pick who I want. But now I kind of want to but I have a feeling this girl might be the type to make me angry. I do on the other hand want those head pots to fill with succulents. Minus that I kill succulents and cacti.

  9. Emily on June 14, 2011

I love this round up. I love succulents and am having them as part of my decor for my wedding. This is pretty much the greatest inspiration round up I’ve seen. Thank you thank you!!

  10. Melanie S. on June 14, 2011

I’m going to say it… I am obsessed obsessed OBSESSED with your blog. It’s frightening how much I look forward to your posts every day. I think I’m getting less work done and I blame YOU! =^) I really hate that I only just found it recently. But on the upside I have a good 7 months left until my wedding day, so we’re cool. ;^)

Other than that very weirdo rant, I love the succulents and love the bachlorette recapping. Dead on.

  11. Kimber on June 14, 2011

OMG. Succulents rock my face off! what a fabulous display of succulentness…

    And yes, no tutu-hoo-hoo…

  12. Sam T on June 14, 2011

I WANT YOUR PUP! hes way too cute for words

  13. Aleah + Nick on June 14, 2011

Succulents…how I love thee. Alison, you’d love our San Diego garden – they’re nestled all over ripe for the pickin’. Okay, you don’t eat them, but we actually pluck them often for our magazine shoots and client events….

  14. Georgia on June 15, 2011

My obsession with your dog is slightly embarrassing! xG

  15. Kelly Elizabeth on June 15, 2011

okay, I don’t know if you read but you have a fellow blogger who loves the bachelorette…and she has a connection to West..>! read on:

  16. Laura *You Stir Me* on June 15, 2011

The images from the This Modern Romance shoot have never left me. They are THE most gorgeous and romantic images I’ve seen. And those dresses…

I’ve never worked with succulents but I’m dying to incorporate them into some tables this summer – do you think they could work with a “summertime farm chic” dessert table? sure, why not.

    And, give me your puppy.

  17. Cocroft & Delbridge on June 15, 2011

Ok…while I do love the Bachelor/Bachelorette…I am ready for Ashley’s ‘middle school antics’ to end. Bentley was a jerk…he left…get over it. However I thought it was sort of hysterical when he wondered how his hair looked right before he went to Ashley’s house to tell her that he was peacing out. She should have gone for West…he was darling.

In other news…I am loving the Style Unveiled shoot…so great.

  18. Lena on June 15, 2011

First, I’m in LOVE with those Stephanie Williams photos, and that stunning bride-WOW! Succulents are pretty damn delicious, I must say. I was never a fan until I moved to CA-now they’re everywhere, and I love ‘em for it.

While it pained me not to read this yesterday, I’m so glad I watched the Bachelorette so I could fully appreciate your reactions. Constantine’s “How could she fit into MY life…” got a HUGE reaction at our house, too. I couldn’t help but think that women in his position would be saying, “I wonder how I fit into his life, his family, his world.” I’m not sure if it’s a symptom of Constantine’s self-absorption or a man disease. Let’s hope it’s the former.

The girl is clearly not over Bentley, which just makes me so sad. Why can’t Chrisharrison shake her, show her some seriously damning video footage and put the damn thing to REST?!? I don’t know if it’s just that we all saw his interviews and see their interaction in a totally different light than she did, but how on Earth could one person be so clueless? I guess when you get your heart set on something…

All I can say is that I’m getting good and drunk on Monday night, and then I’ll settle in to enjoy what’s behind the mystery door!

  19. Jenn on June 16, 2011

You seem like the right person to ask more about succulents! My bff is getting married next summer and we’re on the hunt for succulents for her bouquet! Now we’re in Canada so we don’t have the pleasure of being where they are! Do you have any suggestions on where we can find these delightful “flowers” ?? Thanks so much :)

  20. vencanice on June 16, 2011

    What a cute puppy

  21. Brancoprata on June 17, 2011

Every time i see succulents i think about you ;)) beautiful round up!!!

  22. terri on June 19, 2011

can u tell me who designed the wedding dress???

  23. Alison on June 20, 2011

Terri – The gown is the work of Joan Shum; she has a shop on :) Lovely gown, I agree!!
