INSPIRATION SESSION LOVE ♥ from the moment they met to their wedding day… | Open Air Photography by Katie Stoops

This has got to be one of the most beautiful, painstakingly arranged inspiration sessions I’ve ever seen.  Just look at the attention to detail, the creative touches in the photography (the shot of the young miss applying red lipstick)… and just look at that black lace hat of hers!  Oh, how I would love to own that hat.  Is it called a hat, by the way?  Anybody?

My favorite shots of their first date…

Here’s a taste of the proposal segment (“She Said Yes”).  I especially adore this part of the shoot, because I recently went ice skating with my beau and it was way more fun than I expected.  Way. I hugely recommend it to you guys if you haven’t yet gone this season.  Hurry, before it’s too late!!!  Note: it may be too late.  ):

{ E-SESSION LOVE } Jenna + Steven ❥ Candy-Coated Enchantment | Kim Le Photography

People.  I just about died when I saw this e-session by Kim Le that Abby recently posted over on Style Me Pretty.  It’s major.  It’s what e-sessions are meant to look like.  For serious.

One of my simple pleasures in life is the way a group of photos can completely make my day.  I never know where they’ll be, or what they’ll depict, but when the moment hits me, it’s not unlike the feeling that comes over me when I find out Bumble Bee Solid White Albacore Tuna is on sale for 69 cents per can.  That was probably the least climactic thing you’ve read all day.  But they really were on sale last week at Food Emporium for 69 cents, and that’s unheard of around here.  And no, I don’t have kids.  I have a fiancé who loves his tunafish.

Anyway… here, check out a few more of my favorite shots from Jenna & Steven’s e-session:

Isn’t it just the most darling thing ever?  This couple is so photogenic, it’s ridiculous.  I mean, how much do you love them?

If you liked this – and I’m extremely confident that you did – then I strongly suggest taking a more comprehensive look at this enchanting little e-session by clicking right here!  Now, for one more taste…

By the way, canned tuna and candied e-sessions aren’t the only things that make my world go round.  But they definitely do their part to keep it spinning.

ENGAGEMENT SESSION LOVE | simply bloom photography | Hipsters Make the Best Engagement Session Subjects…

I realize Valentine’s Day has come and gone already, and that it’s March 2.  Fully aware.  I also understand that, once a holiday has passed, most don’t dwell on it beyond its final hour.  But let me ask you this: do we deny to those of us who were born on a leap year the right to celebrate their birthdays each and every single year, even though it’s a total farce and we’re all laughing at them behind their backs?  No, we do not deny them that right.  Because we love them?  No.  Because it’s fair.

So, in the spirit of fairness, and for leap year babies everywhere, if they exist (I mean, do they?  I’ve heard stories, but they seem as rare as pandas.  Comment if you’re out there – I’d love to do lunch and learn about your people.  How does it go; kind of like dog years?)… here’s an engagement session in the key of love.

Vania and Christine of SimplyBloom Photography seem to churn out swoonworthy sessions each and every time.  It’s a gift.

That’s a headboard.

I want this girl to throw my future children their birthday parties.  I’ve never seen someone so committed to a theme.  I bet money she has a blog – this kind of creativity doesn’t just sit idle.  If you read this, let me know, ok?  You’ve displayed some pretty amazing skills, here, and if you’re not in prop & set styling, you may have missed your calling.

Umm.  Love.

Check out the shot below.  This sneak peak of an upcoming shoot is what started today’s SimplyBloom frenzy.  I cannot wait to see more shots involving those pastel threads (LOVING his plaid shirt) and soft, embroidered drapery.

By the way – and tell me if you’ve noticed this, too – one thing that has always stood out to me about really fashiontastic engagement shoots… like, the really beautiful, colorful ones that always yield the best pics… is the fact that none of those outfits would ever find their way onto the body of my fiancé.  He’d just never wear something that plaid, or with suspenders, or generally anything especially hipster.  Not that I’d necessarily ask him to do so.  But I just know it in my heart that, if he did dawn a fedora, or wear a doorknob boutonniere, it would be because he loves me.  And for no other reason.

♡ WEDDING PARTY ♡ Third Installment ♡ ……MORE VERA, FROM THE RUNWAY……

Welcome back, friends!  (If you’re new here, you might want to check out the previous installments from this multi-part series on the Wedding Library’s Wedding Party.)

Alright, once again, do you remember this teaser?

Well, here’s the rest of it…

You may have noticed that this girl is smokin’ hot.  So it doesn’t matter that the bottom half of the gown is TO DIE, but the top looks a bit like a bedazzled flesh-toned leotard.  Smokin’ hot makes that okay.  Net verdict: LOVE.

Anyone on the search for a black wedding gown?  Vera’s all over that…

By the way, if you’re seriously in the market for a black wedding dress, I salute you, pioneer woman.  Vera’s is definitely one to consider, but bright and early tomorrow morning I’ll be showing you another black gown that’ll likely blow ya mind.  It’s so beautiful, I’m threatened by it.

Love all of this...

No, I Love YOU Much.

Have you ever felt like you’ve found your long lost twin – a separated at birth, or maybe from-another-mother kinda deal – just upon reading a couple of posts on a blog that’s new to you?  It’s a funny feeling, a new level of awesomeness, because it’s like finding an old friend without ever having met her.

Well, when I read “I am a bad bride with too many STDs,” by Lauren of I Love You Much, I found mine.  For more reasons than what I’m bringing to the table today, but I think the inspiring eye candy that follows will be most satisfying.

By the way, if you haven’t already deduced that STDs stands for Save-the-Dates, well then you’re probably not planning a wedding at the moment.  I must say that I have struggled with that unfortunate acronym for quite some time.  I don’t care if that other thing it used to stand for is now officially known as “STI” – no matter, because it will ALWAYS denote an angry nether region to me, and I’m not really into sounding like I’m trying to put a freshly acquired infection on blast when all I’m doing is sharing some pretty wedding paper.

If these were my save-the-dates, I’d have a HECK of a time deciding on just one to send out.  So I’m not shocked that she’s been facing the same issue.

Lauren, I wish you barrels of luck making a decision.  You have your work cut out for you.  And by the way, it’s never too late for a save-the-date as beautiful as any of these.  I’d be plum delighted to receive one in the mail… even if it followed the invitation.  The prettiness you’ve created here is beyond compare.

TOP FIVE TIPS FOR GREAT WEDDING HAIR | What You Must Know to Look Your Best on Your Big Day… No, SERIOUSLY.

All the time, as I walk the streets of New York, Westchester and the Island of Long, I see girls who look absolutely stunning in their everyday lives.  Many sport low ponies, others rock side-swept bangs.  They look great; their chosen styles suit them.  And, as a people watcher, I love good style.  It’s a treat for me.

But, come the wedding day, something changes for some brides.  It happens to so many of these normally stylishly coiffed contessas, something that I can describe only as a tragic disconnect between their naturally on point senses of style, and what they believe looks even better in the context of their wedding day.  Curls when they normally rock it straight, or a tight updo when they typically let if flow free.  Too often, my internal dialogue sounds something like this: “Shoot, you looked so good yesterday in your go-to high pony, why did you think pin curls were the right style for your big day?”  I just don’t get it!  This phenomenon I can’t fully explain.  It baffles me – though I do have some ideas.

I understand the desire for change, for something fresh, different, new… and, thus, presumptively more beautiful.  But it’s not every time that the latter follows the former.  And when I see it happen, a few signals go off in my head that lead me to some probable assumptions about what precipitated the mess up top.

I don’t want this to happen to any more brides.  I can’t in good conscience allow it.  I’ve spoken to too many brides who have expressed regret over their ‘day-of-do’ to let it go on any longer.

… So, I’ve created a quick reference list of the best advice I can offer when it comes to your wedding day locks.  SERIOUSLY, pay attention, I do this out of love…

5 Top Tips for Great Wedding Day Hair:

~ Consider how you wear your hair normally.  Is this somewhat chic, and would you consider it appropriate for a formal event?  Then maybe it’s the perfect look and you shouldn’t mess with a good thing.

~ Ask trusted friends and family.  Some- no, many people will lie to you because they don’t want to hurt your feelings.  Which can lead to hair fails.  And this is not the time for a hair fail.

~ Don’t be led by your stylist.  It doesn’t matter if the person doing your hair likes it; it matters if YOU like it.  Ok?  So be true to yourself.

~ It’s easier to be true to yourself when you plan ahead, as in arrange for a consultation/trial so you can actually take a mental (and actual) picture of what you can expect to look like.  This will also let you know if you and your chosen stylist are on the same page when it comes to the definition of looking good.

~ Always keep this in mind: he’s already proposed to you, which means he wants to spend the rest of his life with you, and you’ve looked the way you look now, all along.  You must look at least half-way decent already.

For inspiration, I have included within this post a veritable Smörgåsbord of hair styles I consider to be wedding-appropriate.  (Save for that very first one; that’s just for laughs… OF COURSE.)  Please hover over the images for their details and credits, which have been assigned where available.  Images without detailed information are courtesy of Polyvore.

WEDDING INSPIRATION, IN THE ROUND | ~ balloons and bubblegum ~ | Perfect Ways to Make Your Pictures POP!

We all want our weddings to be great, and this can mean many things to many people.  It all depends on who you ask.  It can mean keeping with tradition.  It can mean standing out from the rest.  It can mean showing our personalities, and our uniqueness, both as individuals and as a couple.  However, regardless of how it’s defined, one thing’s for sure – we all want that extra special thing, whatever it may be, so that everyone who has come to celebrate this momentous occasion in our lives will remember it always, as our wedding.

So, how about balloons? :) Hehe.

By the way, remember this post?  Truly one of the more awesome balloon shoots I’ve had the pleasure of seeing…

Totally worth a look-see.

Ok, so clearly those are engagement shots – and while brilliant shots, they aren’t weddings.  So here’s an actual wedding with the balloon idea implemented.  I LOVE how the crisp, white spheres line both sides of the aisle, adding such incredible structure to the photos.  There’s an intensity here, with the focus so clearly on the marrying couple… and it’s very much a result of the double row of balloons, which serve to guide your eyes towards the center.  It’s clean, it’s powerful, and it’s beautiful.

Sticking with the white wedding theme, howsabout this…

Here are a few more of my favorite engagement shots.  Don’t you love the creativity of these couples?  A prop like this can really ease out the playfulness that is so essential with engagement shoots.  The Bubblicious is your call.  If you teach for a living, I imagine it’s not for you.  (In fact, if you’re anything like the teachers I had in grade school, you’re probably aching for these girls to trash the chewing gum posthaste.)

Though, I must say, these two young ladies pull it off quite nicely…

One last thing: I caught wind of The Cherry Blossom Girl on a visit to decor8 one day, and found this precious little balloon brooch, by Stolen Thunder.  If you really love balloons – like, REALLY – but don’t know if they fit in all that smoothly with the rest of your decor, well then here’s a darling way to show your affection for the them.  If it’s not the right fit for your look that day, then it could be the perfect bridesmaids’ gift, no?  I admit, I think it’s just too cute not to make up an excuse to buy a few of ‘em.  So that’s kind of what I’m doing right now. :)

DESSERT TABLE INSPIRATION | look what I sniffed out! | This is Not Your Mother’s Viennese Table…

On a visit to Chic Florals & Events, while scrolling down the page I suddenly caught sight of something I knew I had seen before, elsewhere.  I remember totally loving it but, of course, whenever that first time was, I had been distracted by some other bit of loveliness elsewhere, and left it behind.  Well, thankfully I stumbled upon it once again, and no way is it getting left in my dust this time.  It’s just too pretty, too chic, and too great an idea to risk forgetting about all over again.

How sharp does that look?  There’s something so incredibly exquisite about this idea… and while I can’t speak for all dessert cheese tables, I’ll risk it and say that if you set up a smartly chosen arrangement of low-stink factor milky delights, and label those suckers in such a way as has been done here by the amazing Maybelle Imasa-stukuls, I’d say you’ve got a guaranteed hit on your hands.  And why’s that?

… Because people LOVE CHEESE.  And the only thing people love more than cheese is cheese spread across a slice of baguette.

Karen Mordechai of Sunday Suppers styled and snapped this loveliness for a guest blog post on The Bride’s Guide with Darcy Miller, Martha Stewart’s wedding blog.

The objective, in Karen’s words: “we decided to create a dessert cheese table—very much in the French fashion—using a rustic chic look for décor, staying within the given color palette of cream and white.”

By the way, adding comb honey to the tablescape is a magnificent idea, if you ask me.  Not only is it easy on the eyes (who hasn’t stared at that captivating little jar of tightly packed honeycomb, just waiting for a good reason to buy it?), but spread on bread or paired with a strong cheese, it’s one heck of a treat for the palate.  Your guests will LOVE it!

VALENTINE’S DAY + NIGHT ~ YOUR LOOK… gorgeous glitz for a glamorous neck and face ~ My Favorite Accessories for February 14th

Maybe you’ve got a hot date this Valentine’s Day.  Do ya?  Or maybe you and your honey have extra-special plans for this fast approaching day of lovers.  Yeah, you know what I’m driving at.

… I’m referring to a nice, intimate dinner at home, followed by some innocent cuddling.  You dirty girl.

If it’s neither the first nor the second, then maybe you simply live for deliciously dainty design.  Yeah?  Then we’re soul sistas in that respect.  Now, whatever you’re doing for Valentine’s Day, one thing is for sure: you’re going to look fabulous no matter what you wear.

… But adding some fun and flirty flash to rev up your chosen duds certainly couldn’t hurt, am I right?  I’m right.  I know that, for me, an extra-lovely, slightly sparkly touch of jewelry always serves to brighten my outlook when it’s just one of those days when the threads and the blush just aren’t enough.

*VALENTINE’S DAY INSPIRED GOODNESS* { D1, P1 } | DIY projects ♥ tutorials ♥ freebies ♥ treats for a blissful and beautiful ‘love day’

As announced on Twitter, we’re doing a Countdown to Valentine’s Day Tour, right here within the confines of this bloggity blog blog.  So, less a tour, per se, more a countdown to Valentine’s Day.  But all the same to you, right?  What?  Just get to the project?  Oh… oh okay.  Here you go…

So, I am madly in love with this little V-Day inspired project from Molly of The Purl Bee!

Valentine’s Day approaches, and I don’t have to tell you which flower is practically synonymous with that holiday.  So, what could be better than rose barrettes?  They’re pretty adorable, and I think they’d be quite a chic addition to any little kiddo’s otherwise drab V-Day ensemble.  You know, if you’re into that kind of thing.  (Even if you don’t think you are, you will be, trust me.  My sister’s little girl wears THE CUTEST OUTFITS ON EARTH, and my sister – hey, Jen! – is and has always been the polar opposite of what one would call a “girlie girl.”  Go figure.

When I have a little girl, she’ll be wearing felt barrettes that I made with my bare hands and she’ll LIKE IT.

So, here’s what you’ll need for this project, as advised by Molly:

-One Wool Felt Bundle in Spice
-Embroidery Thread to match the felt
-8 snap clip barrettes, available at most drug stores, or online here
-One Rose Barrette Pattern available for free download (on her site), printed and cut out

Molly gives you a step by step tutorial over at The Purl Bee ~ be sure to check it out so you can get crackin’ on these cuties!

I can totally see one of these barrettes atop the precious little noggin of a flower girl.  Or even an arrangement of four or five in a row, creating a kind of homemade head wreath!  Oooohh that would be too cute for words.  I would LOVE to see a picture of that in action!

I totally have those clips, you probably do, too.  Everybody had those growing up!

I’d love to see how these turn out, my darling readers.  If you decide to try your hand at this project, you MUST send a shot to theknottybride {@} gmail {dot} com!

Alright, more Valentine’s Day inspired goodness to come!

JUST PEACHY | wedding photos ripe with color + inspiration ~ in the key of peach | This is Kind of My Perfect Wedding Palette!

My fiancé loves peaches.  Really, really loves them.  Not alone, oddly, but inside of things.  Like, inside of my peach and blueberry pie, for instance.  I don’t blame him… the pie is delicious.  I would go on about the pie and how much he loves it, but I risk getting mired in an unsavory realm of double entendre here, so I’ll just leave it at that.

When I came across these photos within the post Peach Wedding Ideas on Once Wed, I was struck by two pretty wonderful things.

The first was that my fiancé loves peaches (in his own weird way but still…) and the second, well the second was that I LOVE THESE COLORS.

A girl (like me) constantly dreams of developing or discovering the perfect theme or idea that meets two very important criteria: loveliness, and a reflection of our likes and personalities.

Jackpot?  Wedding theme chosen?  We’ll see.  I do ADORE the florals, and dig the idea of somehow bringing peaches into the mix, since I’m all about infusing natural elements into a wedding.  So I’m definitely a fan of what’s going on here.

Alas, I am fickle.  I’m really quite the indecisive young lady, with far too much inspiration at and oozing out of my fingertips.  (Eww.)  So I’ll just keep on looking, and keep on bringing it back here.  Because, you know what?  I love being overwhelmed.  Yeah, I THRIVE on the feeling.

Jeez Louise, look at this CAKE.  It. Is. PERFECT.  Kind of reminds me of this cake, from one of my favorite weddings EVA.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD | there’s something about Carrie… | “Hmm, it’s Nice… But Do You Have it in White?”

Awww, just look at them.  Aren’t they adorable?

Carrie with her fiance, hockey player Mike Fisher

{ 1, 2, 3 }

As we’ve come to expect from Carrie, she was a vision walking the red carpet, this time at the 2010 Grammy Awards in LA this past Sunday, January 31.

The details:

On her ears: Ippolita Silver…

+

On her bod: a white Edition by Georges Chakra…

And in her hand: a Swarovski crystal clutch…

Alright, let’s get to it here…

Have you noticed a pattern in Carrie’s signature style over the years?  I suspect you may have, as she’s been following it to a tee – almost religiously.  Carrie is pretty consistent… in fact, one might say there are no shades of gray (or much of any other color, for that matter, save for the occasional all black ensemble, and a few brightly colored numbers she’s sprinkled in over the years).

Are you picking up what I’m puttin’ down?

If it isn’t already obvious – and I do believe I’ve beaten it to a pulp at this point – the 26-year-old has a rather serious penchant for evening gowns and cocktail dresses that keep it on the whiter side of things.  She clearly knows what works for her, and isn’t afraid to stick with it.  Sort of like back in grade school, whenever I found a top that fit me just right, I’d leave the store with at least three, in different colors.  (Noooo, I didn’t catch flack for that.)  So I feel ya, Carrie.

Here, flip through these and you’ll see what I mean…

[flagallery gid=10 name="Lady in (shades of) white"]

So, with that said, are you thinking what I’m thinking?  If you are, then that makes two of us who cannot wait to find out what the future Mrs. Fisher will be wearing for that walk down a very different kind of carpet.  Hint hint, nudge nudge.

She’s certainly gotten in some good practice. ;)

WEDDING DRESS LOVE | feminine + delicate + alluring | Elizabeth Dye ~ The English Dept

Checking my Google Reader is ALWAYS a thrill, especially when I haven’t been by in a bit and there’s a lot through which to wade.  I hear some people don’t like that, and I can see how it could quickly become overwhelming… but I dig it.  I never know what’s in store for me, and I love it that way.

I swear, it feels like Christmas each and every time.  Especially given the fact that I can usually expect to see a post or two about beautiful paper, lovely note cards or pretty packaging.  So yeah, Christmas.

… So, imagine my delight when I clicked on the feed of one of my favorite blogs, Eat Drink Chic, and caught a glimpse of these:

Lovely, right?

It has been a challenge to hold these in over an entire weekend.

I seriously could not wait to show them to you!  These gowns are just a few of the many unbelievable pieces Elizabeth Dye has created as part of her Spring 2010 Collection.  I love them and openly covet them.  I wish (I could afford/it wouldn’t look ridiculous to) wear each and every one of them on my wedding day.  Aren’t they all just darling in their own, unique ways?

Elizabeth works out of her studio in Portland, Oregon and owns a shop called The English Dept.  Don’t live anywhere near there?  No problem.  She also has a cozy little Etsy shop by the same name, where you can view a few of her inspiring designs – not to mention grab one for yourself if you’re in the market.

By the way, I love her custom work, too.  Especially this little number…

How cute does this bride look?  I love that she’s got to get on her tippy toes in order to lock lips with her hubby!  So precious.

Here’s another one of Elizabeth’s darling designs – it’s called “Ghost,” and it comes in both a long version…

And a short one!

I’m kind of loving the set design here, too.  And if I ever launch a line of wedding attire and need to do a model search, this gal will absolutely be on my short list.  Just look at that punim!  Gorgeous.

CELEBRITY ENGAGEMENTS | Carrie Underwood + Mike Fisher… Sooo… That Would Make Her Name Carrie Fisher, Right?

All signs point to yes on this one, ladies and gents…

~ PLUS ~

THEY’RE ENGAGED!

It has been confirmed that Ottawa Senators center Mike Fisher, 29, proposed to country music superstar Carrie Underwood, 26, this past Sunday, December 20th.  She said yes!  Love it.  My fiancé and I have serious love for Carrie Underwood… different kinds of love, but love for her, all the same.  She’s got quite a voice, and the face to go with it.  I can’t blame him.  ;)

Look at them.  They’re kind of GORGEOUS together, no?

FASHION for your HEALTH | your happiness and your look | Not Enough Sun in Your Life? Try Wearing it.

In her “Notes on Nursing: What It Is and What It Is Not,” English nurse Florence Nightingale wrote that light – preferably sunlight – plays an essential role in the process of getting well.  She also said that those of us who are ailing “should be able to see … sky and sunlight,” as she observed that most patients tended to lie with their faces turned towards the light, much in the way that “plants always make their way to the light.”

This is why doctors are always telling us to make sure we get enough Vitamin D.  Among its many purported health benefits, it is understood that the Vitamin D our body produces when our skin is exposed even to just a little bit of sunshine can actually make us feel better emotionally.  Which means it can literally and figuratively brighten our day!  That’s kind of awesome.

So, now that we know that sunlight is pretty important for our general well-being, it seems like it should be easy enough to get our hands on it – err, faces in it – right?  Just step into the light for 10-15 minutes and ta-da, you’ve got yourself enough rays for the day (well, health-wise; certainly not fun-wise).

Unfortunately, while at work, many of us do not have the privilege of being seated near south-facing windows, and still others have the misfortune of being caged inside of too-high cubicle walls, seemingly fated never to experience the touch and feel of daylight between the hours of 9am to 6pm.  (Which reminds me – when did the acceptable amount of hours in a typical work day go from 9 – 5 to 9 – 6?  When and WHY did this change?  Yes, I am asking you, The Man.)

Anyway… so what are we to do if we can’t spend some time outside, soaking up those warm winter rays?

Well, if you really don’t have any time at all to do it, then a) you’re being seriously overworked, and b) you might want to check with your doctor about alternative ways to get your daily dose – ’cause, for real, it’s important.

Beyond that, I’ve got some fashion advice: how about a fun, alternative way for you to get some light in your life?  While it won’t result in the production of Vitamin D, it will give you a seriously useful boost of confidence that should last well beyond sunset.  What is it?  Well, unless you’re interested in waking up at dawn to catch a few minutes of sunbeam satisfaction before you head off to work, I suggest dawning some glam threads that’ll serve to brighten your mood… not to mention many of those around you!  I love it when I see someone who has really put some effort into her look… especially if it’s on a day when I HAVEN’T!  :)

So, what to wear?  Today, I’ve gathered up a healthy mix of fun, shimmering, soft, chic and romantic looks for the flashion-obsessed bride!  Any sparkle or glow in your get-up will do; from a dress with lots of glitz, to a clutch that catches some serious light, to earrings that illuminate your immediate surroundings.  Whether you’re into a frock with some flash, or you prefer a soft, chic look that leaves the razzle-dazzle to a super accessory, it doesn’t matter… when you arrive at your bachelorette party in any one of these get-ups, you’ll look and feel hotter than each and every one of those girls on stage at your future hubby’s bach… I mean, any of those girls in their winter coats working the ski lifts at the lodge.  Because that’s where men go for bachelor parties; they go to ski lodges, and then they turn in early.  ;)
