GIVEAWAY + DISCOUNT CODES | Win $250 To Use On Something Beautiful from Emici Livet!

As I’ve said before, I love Marie at Emici Livet and she is a goddess.  A goddess as in she is one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet and she cares about every piece – every bouquet, every sash, every ring pillow, every hair accessory, etc. etc – that she makes, as if it were her child.  That genuine love for her work, combined with unparalleled ability and technique (plus a very healthy obsession with perfectionism, lets be honest), always results in a one of a kind piece that’ll melt your eyes off and make you run to the doctor to get a new set of eyes just so you can start staring at it again.  I really am not overstating this, trust.  Her creations are like, really beautiful, and you’ll end up passing them down for generations whether or not that was your plan initially.

The stuff she makes – it draws you in.

So it’s so fun for me to be able to host a giveaway from Marie for Knotty readers.  Here’s what you’ll win:

$250, which you can use towards anything in Marie’s collection!

It’s Emici Livet’s BIGGEST GIVEAWAY EVER, you guys.  Like whoa.

If you’re like “screw the giveaway, I want to get something NOW” well then guess what- I have a discount code for you.  Actually, I have two.  Just go to Emici Livet and pick out what you want, then use the code KNOTTYBRIDE and boom, 10% discount.  This applies site-wide, people.  Marie’s also throwing in a code for free shipping.  It’s FREESHIP, duh.  These codes will expire about an hour before we announce the winner so don’t wait around y’all.  Now, check out a sampling of the beauties that await you on her site, then…

Scroll down for how to enter (FYI it’s easy)!

WIN: One Stellar Wedding Photography Package, from Ivan Apfel Photography {Contests, Giveaways & LOL Cats}

I’m gearing up to publish some pretty personal posts here on the blog.  Because why not, right?  Omg, that’s probably the worst reason to do it.

Anyway the awkward thing about personal posts is that they can get a little emotiontacular, whether or not it’s my intention (usually my intention).  Mostly because everybody’s a lot more similar than we are different, and so ya’always run the chance of deeply identifying with me and all of my s**t that I go through.  And that s**t can be heavy.  I’m gonna stop calling it my s**t.

So I’ve been trying to think of what would be the best way to pregame those posts for you.  And I came up with this: telling you about the super amazing contest/giveaway Ivan Apfel is holding!  Because DUH.  Of course that’s a good idea.  I keep trying to tell you; this wedding blogging thing?  It ain’t rocket science.  And I don’t care what you might have believed, skin-grafting and cadaver dissections make up only a small part of what goes on here, in the wedding blogging world.  50 hours max, of dissecting human cadavers.  It almost NEVER happens!!  Where was I.  Oh right…

When I think about Ivan Apfel‘s work, I get excited.  I just love a photographer who has what you gotta believe is the winning combination in this field: amazing at/in love with what he does for a living, AND just generally a cool dude.  Like, if you’re the one who wins his contest, and you guys are meeting for the first time and you go to shake his hand, it will resemble a scene like this:

So gentle.  Even if you generally act like this:

Though I definitely don’t condone/think you should be acting like that.  I’m just saying he is a classy guy.  And that kind of thing really makes a difference when it comes to the way you experience your wedding day.  So that’s why, when he let me know he was running a new contest, I started throwing up rainbows again.

AH, I know.  I really need to get this checked, but the leading specialist in gastrorainbowology here in nyc is booked through December.  I’ll let you know how it goes.  Just- expect more rainbow outta my face, until then.

So anyway… wanna win a contest?  If so, then today’s a good day for you, cuz this one’s happening.  For more details and to enter, go visit the contest page of Ivan’s site!  And best of luck, lovelies!  I just know you’ll be so happy if you win. :)

xoxo  - Alison

P.S. – sorry for the WEIRDEST POST EVER WRITTEN.  I think I need to do yoga or something.

SHOOT DETAILS THAT GET YOU PUBLISHED | Sweet treats, piglets, picnics, quilts, bunting, confetti icing… | Plus, Our Giveaway Winner! Oh and Bambino, obvs.

Ok so things may or may not have gotten a little out of control with this post, so I’m warning you up front.  Crazy ahead.  ……. yyyyyeeeeeeaaaaah.

By the way (did I just start off a blog post with “by the way?”) all day I’ve been blogging to the “tap tap tappity tap” of certain a/c units dripping ad nauseum onto other, lower a/c units jutting out from the apartments beneath them.  So, let it be known… this is how I roll.  But, my rolling aside, HAPPY LATE AFTERNOON ON THURSDAY, friendlies!  How goes it?  Well?  Not well?  I hope well.  That would suck if it was the latter.  Maybe the Bambino will do the trick, that is, if you are one of those at the mercy of the latter.  What in the EFF am I even talking about right now.  Enough.  Let’s start over.

I have sort of a smörgåsbord of “stuff” for you this afternoon, and I’ve been putting it together all day, ’cause you know I likes to takes my times with my bloggins, n such.  It’s weird; every single day all I want out of these blog posts is to make you guys smile… aaaaaand I’m starting to ramble again.  Yeeesh.  Ok I have one little *realization* to address right quick, and then some NEWS many of you have been awaiting, and THEN a shoot that shows you exactly what it involves to *get published* on a blog like this one.  Hint: it’s all in the details, details, details.  Ok…. now, about that realization thingamajig… {Continue reading…}

PHOTOGRAPHY GIVEAWAY | Meet Our Finalists… And Vote for Our Winner!

PLEASE NOTE: Voting on this contest is now closed. Around 2700 votes were cast, and our winner was announced here. Thank you for participating!

Morning, everyone!  Happy hump day!  As promised, we’re announcing the four finalists of Vendor Love member Gem Photo’s Free Wedding Photography Giveaway, and OMGWEARESOEXCITED.  Emily Scott of Gem Photo is the most wonderful person in the world, and she’s pretty handy with a camera, too.  Also, that last part is the biggest understatement ever.  Whoever ultimately wins this giveaway is in for the wedding photography experience of their freaking LIVES.  Haha, no pressure, Em. ;)

Ok, here’s how this is going to work.  Below you’ll find all four finalists and their corresponding stories.  (If you’re a finalist, congrats and good luck!)  After you’ve scoped out the four submissions, you can go ahead and vote for your favorite up to two times per day.*  If you’re a finalist, you can vote for yourself up to two times as well, and we encourage you to enlist your family and friends to vote (up to two times per person) for you, too!  Yeah, I know, it’s awesome.  But wait, there’s more!

We just added each of our finalists’ photos to an album on our Facebook page as well.  If you vote by clicking “Like” beneath one of our finalists’ photos, this counts as another vote, so essentially a single person can vote three times for his/her favorite!  Awesomesauce.

*VOTING CLOSES next week on Thursday, January 13th, 2011 at 9AM PST.

Ok, without further adieu, the finalists!

1. FINALIST: Candace & Rich

Candace and Rich stopMotion

He makes me feel like dancing!

Rich and I started as best friends, and regardless of his numerous attempts, I never let us stray from our “just friends” relationship. Everything changed once I came back from a study abroad trip and realized I was in love too.
Throughout the past four years, Rich and I have become partners in everything from cooking, laughing, dancing, and trying new things. Rich gives me so much energy – the kind of energy that makes you want to jump to your feet and dance like a maniac. I wanted to include this animated photo because I believe it displays a large part of what has drawn Rich and I together- excitement for life and a genuine love for each other.

I look forward to calling him my husband on September 04, 2011 in Omaha, NE. We have both spent a lot of time planning our wedding to make sure our guests witness our love and share in our excitement for our future together – and you can bet they’ll be LOTS of dancing! We would love to have Emily capture those moments, so we can look back on them and feel those “powerful moments” for the rest of our lives.

2. FINALIST: Kristina & Drew

This was taken in 2008 on Halloween.  A few weeks before Halloween, my best friend and I were sitting on the porch talking about whether or not we were going to dress up this year.  I’ve always been a Halloween fanatic (my birthday is the day before), but since we were now living in Stockton I didn’t see the point of dressing up, since we had nowhere to go. I didn’t even think we would get trick-or-treaters.  We were bathing in our own self pity and discussing how maybe we were just getting too old to dress up when Drew came home.  He asked what we were talking about and seemed shocked at the idea of not dressing up.  Then he pulled out this large, pink gem and said he found it on the ground on his way to night class.  He said it was a sign from the heavens that we should be trolls  (you know those creepy little dolls that have sparkling navels).  His excitement was infectious and within minutes we were buying wigs online, cutting up old sweats, and laughing about how we would get the gems to stick to our bellybuttons.  Every time I look at this photo, it reminds me of the kind of man I am about to spend the rest of my life with.  He is an eternal optimist and, although I like to think I’m the level headed and more responsible, it is he who has taught me to slow down and enjoy the moment.  He puts up with me bitching about California’s school budget or freaking out if the DVR doesn’t record Dexter.  In the last five years of being with him, I take more chances, sing more in the shower, and still get excited when I hear his car pull up in the driveway.  And come on! What kind of man does it take to wear a bubble gum pink troll costume and walk down the street with his head held high?!  My kind of man.

3. FINALIST: Heather & Ian

Our story takes place in New York City.  Ian had me pack for a long weekend upstate at a B&B that we had been planning as a much needed getaway for a few months now.  We packed our bags and headed out for brunch and a bloody mary first.  Once Ian mentioned Bloody Marys (which is our favorite drink), I immediately searched online for a great place to grab a bloody mary (as we’re always on the search for the best) and discovered that it was first invented at the St. Regis Hotel.  I immediately suggested that we head there after brunch before catching our train (which was a GREAT idea being that that was where he planned to propose to me just a few hours later).  So…we headed with our bags to the St. Regis on Friday morning and entered the King Cole Bar as the first people in there (minus the server and bartender) and were seated at a corner table.  Following an emotional conversation between the two of us, Ian asked me the date and told me that this was a date I should remember as November 5, 2010 is the day he’s going to ask me to be his wife.  Sliding onto his knee and slipping the ring on my finger, he asked me to marry him.  Moments later, the bartender popped a bottle of champagne and Ian gave me another surprise….we weren’t going away at all…we were staying right here at the St. Regis for the weekend.  Entering our suite, the entire room was decorated with purple (my favorite color) flowers and just a few hours later, both our families came to join us for drinks in our suite (yet another surprise from Ian).  Amazing weekend…amazing man and I cannot wait for an amazing life together!!!

4. FINALIST: Sarah & Jason, submitted by Stephanie, Sarah’s best friend

Ok, so I am neither person in the photo!  My name is Stephanie, and above is Jason & Sarah!  She is my very best friend of over 6 years and I just love her to pieces.  They are set to wed on March 19, 2011.  We met our freshmen year in college at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  Jason and Sarah have been together probably over 3-4 years.  He is a police officer in Wilmington, NC and she recently transferred from Duke University Hospital as a PICU Nurse (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) to New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington.  He romantically proposed on Wrightsville Beach July 5, 2010, and they shortly thereafter purchased a beautiful home in Wilmington!  Since the engagement, they’ve had some scary encounters.  Jason has an 8 year old son named Skyler who recently became very sick with an unknown illness which the doctors suspected was leukemia or cancer.  It was an extremely tough and testing few weeks but fortunately, as it turns out, was just a bacterial infection in his hip which he is still being treated with antibiotics for.  With the new home, and doctor bills, the wedding budget has gotten quite tight.

They are such a wonderful couple and deserve the world and more, so I felt I would be doing them an injustice by not entering them into this contest.  By the way, they have no idea!  Neither Sarah nor Jason has been married before, and I want this wedding to be so special for them because they truly deserve it!  They give back every single day in their occupations, so I hope they encompass just what you are looking for in a fabulous, deserving couple!

Quick reminder: two votes per person per day, plus one “Like” per person of one chosen finalist’s image on The Knotty Bride’s Facebook page.  Family and friends of finalists are welcomed and encouraged to vote.  A Facebook “Like” of a finalist’s photo functions as an additional vote, beyond the two permitted here within the post comments, making it possible to vote three times per person.  High kick, woot!

Fine Print: IP addresses will be noted when tallying votes, so please, no made up email addresses and no more than two comment votes per person, per day.  Thank you! Please also note that all votes cast after 9AM PST on Thursday, January 13th, 2011 will be disqualified.

Can’t wait to see who wins!

P.S. – OMGITWASSOHARDTOCHOOSEJUST4OFYOU.  It was paaaaaiiiiinful, you guys.  We’re so incredibly sad we couldn’t choose everyone.  Please don’t hate us.  We love all of you and adored all of your entries.  Soooooo haaaaaard to chooooose.

xoxo!  – Alison & Emily

FRIDAY’S FAB FINDS ♡ bunny love ♡ Vintage Labels, Delectable Treats, a Bunny Cozy, Easter Projects and Free Printables for Easter Weekend!

First up, here’s a cute bunny.

He’s just an adorable little reminder that Easter fast approaches!  It’s THIS Sunday, April 4, as if you didn’t know.  I love Easter, for myriad reasons… the main one is coming up in the next post, today.  But a huge reason I love it is because, every year, we celebrate by heading out to my Aunt and Uncle’s house, and eating ham and turkey and sweet potatoes and carrot cake (or pudding, maybe?) and all that other fare synonymous with Easter… as well as with Christmas and Thanksgiving.  (It’s interesting how all those holidays sort of share the same meal.  Why change up a good thing, I guess.  Though it’s not that good.  Though I’ve never had a food dream – which seems odd now that I’m writing it out – I feel confident that it wouldn’t involve turkey and ham.)

Next find is from yvestown: an Easter bunny cozy!  I have much love for this.

Country Living has got me spinning over these precious little pictures and projects.  Behold!

I am adoring the heck out of these vintage Easter labels from Suzee Que.  She’s constantly uploading such fun and lovely labels.  It’s always a thrill to check in and see what she’s got.  In fact, I’ve got a post involving her labels coming up in the very near future that I KNOW, absolutely KNOW, you’re gonna go apes*** over.

Check out these super cute free printable egg wrappers and Easter egg hunt cards, from Two Brunettes!!!

And, finally, Mowielicious brings us home with some of the most delicious looking things I think I’ve ever seen.  Though, I should disclose that Cadbury Mini Eggs and macarons are kind of my favorite things going in this world, edible wise.

I’m a little post-happy, today.  More coming your way, in a bit.  It’s the one I referenced in this morning’s post.  Talk to you soon!  Hope you guys are having a fabulous Friday!

xoxo, Alison

FRIDAY’S FAB FINDS + VALENTINE’S DAY INSPIRED GOODNESS ~ makin’ zee love babies ~ { Part II } Say hi to the next beautiful bunch! | Pretty Printables ♥ Sweet, Delicious Desserts

Oh, hello again!  I didn’t see you there.  Back for thirds, I see.  Well, you’re in for some good news, buddy.  I think it’s safe to say I’ve had a 1 – 2 – 3 PUNCH of post prettiness as far as pretty posts go these days.  (If I do say so myself.)  And my excitement level about this third one is off the charts…

Speaking of charts (yeah, I just did that), how perfect are these for getting in the Valentine’s Day spirit?  They’re Love Charts, loosely and lovingly adapted from your typical doctor’s eye chart… AND I LOVE THEM.

I have these free printables, but I haven’t yet created something as darling as this satchel (above) I discovered while flipping through designinglee‘s photostream (which I found while perusing some craft photostreams – talk about inspiration overload, by the way).

Look what else she did with it!  This girl is officially one of my soul sistas.

I know you want to know how to get your hands on this, and I’m excited to tell you!  Good relationship, we have here.  It’s from ink-bloom!  Go ahead, check them out.  You get the free printable when you sign up for their emails!!!  I am so plugging them for free right now.  How nice am I?

So, I hope y’all are having yourselves a fabulous Friday thus far.  However, if that’s not exactly how you’d describe your day, then I’m betting this will cheer you right up…

I found this remarkably beautiful, drool-inducing Valentine’s Day dessert buffet – created by the amazing Amy Atlas – during what turned out to be a very exciting visit to the ultimate foodie mecca, Hostess with the Mostess.

Those My Valentine heart cookies are perfection!

Loving these rock candy sticks and meringue cookies:

Ahh.  A pink and gray heaven.  I just wanna live inside of it.

… But first, I want one of those cuppies with the keys on top!

Next up is pure photographic beauty.

FORM OF: wedding desserts, drinks and decor.  TAKEN BY: Amelia Lyon.

I’m a big fan of Amelia Lyon’s work.  I’ve featured her before, in one of my favorite wedding photography posts so far.

And now, a little Bakerella love…

Wanna give someone in your life a big ol’ KISS?  Let me recommend Bakerella’s Hershey-but-actually-Oreo Kisses!  It’s a sort of hybrid delight, that you’re gonna like.  I guarantee it.  But I can’t guarantee you’re gonna like the way you look if you eat too many.  So make sure you give ‘em away, mostly.

Isn’t this super?  They look like Hershey’s Kisses… they act like Hershey’s Kisses… but they taste like… well I don’t know what they taste like because I haven’t yet made them.  But the answer’s probably good.

Take a trip on over to Bakerella, and try your hand at these Kiss-tastic treats.

Hey, guess what?

A pretty printable – for freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

These beautiful DIY favor labels are sooooo perfect if you place them on one of my favorite things in the whole wide world: brown paper bags!  (Yes, you’re right – I’m easily pleased.)

I found these printable labels on Flights of Fancy, a lovely blog brought to you by the Betsywhite Stationery Boutique.  It’s focus is on – you guessed it – wedding stationery.  GOT TO LOVE that.

Here are the tools you’ll need to make your own:

- brown paper lunch bags from the grocery store (if you go to Michael’s you’ll find them, too, but they’re a little bit pricier than those at the grocery store)

- a ruler

- an x-acto knife (there’s probably one in your office’s supply closet; shh, I didn’t say that)

- a bone folder

- Double-sided tape or Duck Easy-Stick® Double Stick Adhesive

Note: Flights of Fancy recommends the Easy-Stick for this project.

I think that’s enough for today.  I hope you’re feeling full in the belly with all that edible inspiration!

Alright, here’s me wishing you only the happiest of Fridays, dear friends.  You’re gonna love what I’ve got for you next time.  Oooohhh you are gonna LOVE IT!!!

Love this one too, also from the oh so fabulous Wedding Chicks…

Smashing prop use and graphic design, wouldn’t you say?  Absolutely smashing.

I love the heck out of these magnificent photographs, taken by the incredible Caroline Tran, whose stunning work I’ve featured in the past

Want some more dessert food?  I was hoping you’d ask… I’ve got you covered.  How ’bout some cream-filled chocolate cupcakes?  Courtesy of – who else?  That’s right… Martha!

These teeny little sweet, shy Valentine buddies, by joojooland on Etsy, are THE CUTEST THING I NEVER NEEDED BUT LOVE…

Yup, also available in penguin.  :)

Snails, too.

In my nephew’s words: oohhh, sa’kyooot!

WEDDING DETAILS LOVE | baker’s twine | One Day, They’ll Accept Our Love…

Okay, you all know how much I love the little details that go into creating the ins and outs of your wedding decor.

And it’s no secret that I love me some craftaliscious gift packaging.

Well, one big component of those obsessions is twine.  And for a long time, it didn’t matter what kind.  You see, I do my best not to discriminate.  I don’t see type or color in my twine.  I’m twine-blind.  All twines are created equal, and that’s how it should be.  Twine, twine, twine.

Recently, I’ve noticed that I have a thing for baker’s twine.

I’ve developed a slight – a slight – partiality.  And here’s why.

{ 1-4 }

It is obnoxiously adorable.  In your face pretty.  It’s just irresistible, and you know what?  I won’t waste my time fighting off its advances. Why fight, when we can love?  Really, everyone, join me.  There’s enough to go around.  It’s string.

Baker’s twine is awwwwesoomme (I sang that like an opera singer as I wrote it).  There are SO many things you can do with baker’s twine.  About a bazillion things to be exact, and they’re pretty much all haute and chic… you know, stylish-like.

But they can be kitschy, if you like kitschy.

And they can be cutesy, if you like cutesy.

So if you want some colorful bursts of inspiration that’ll get you into wedding decor production mode tout de suite, well then gaze upon that which ensues.  I hope it pleases thee as much as it pleases me.

That above, that’s pennant bunting!  I love jargon terms.  They always have sort of a luscious taste to them as they roll off the tongue.

Some tags…

… more tags…

… and a pretty pink package, all from Nice Package.  I like that shop name, but for the wrong reasons.

Major red twine love going on here.  You can find the twine in these next two pics over at maythird.

Here’s a really lovely, simple wrap job to which I feel especially endeared:

This right here is a personal fave; while it isn’t baker’s twine, it’s AWESOME and I’ve been dying to post it somewhere, recently:

And a bit more from Nice Package, because you know you want it.
