THE BIRD & THE BEAR | This Is How You Rock a Field Shoot, SON. | By Feather & Twine Photography

(little intro addendum before I get into it…) it happened.  Again.  I can hardly believe it.  In just over a year of living here, we’ve now had four couples break up on the sidewalk under our window sill.  I don’t know why this is happening, but I’m going to assume it has less to do with some kind of bad luck we may be spraying onto pedestrians from our window, and more to do, possibly, with the safety our block offers people who might feel a need to go insane and run around and yell and scream and cry and collapse and run around and yell again.  We have a pretty safe block, car-wise.  But anyway, it breaks my heart when couples come to verbal fisticuffs, it really does.  But one request of the next couple who decides to have it out on our avenue… can you please NOT do it between 12 and 3am?  The yelling, you guys.  I mean.  It’s like– do you HAVE to yell at one another, and for a full two hours?  Especially when it’s this?–

“NO don’t tell me I’m a f**king child and that I should go home!!  I’ll be 18 in TWO DAYS!!!!  Don’t tell me I’m a f**king CHILD!!!!”

That quote from the girlfriend outside would be hilarious if it wasn’t so darn stupid and sad.  Also, I yell for one minute and I completely lose my voice; I don’t get how you keep going, but I do know enough to know that yelling is the last thing that’s going to help your relationship.  Sigh.  Whatever, I’m just super tired from not sleeping last night as a result.  Plus, I’m one of those people who feels other people’s energies, so I’m flatlining a little today.  It is what it is I guess.  Aright sorries, back to your regularly scheduled blogramming….

Hey guyyyyys :)  Wussup, how’s it hangin.  Having a good day?  I hope so, I truly do.

Ok now that I’ve buttered you up… I’ve been thinking recently that I {Continue reading…}

RUCHE BRIDAL COLLECTION PREVIEW | Vintage-Inspired Dresses, Shoes and Accessories.

Oh yes, I realize that it’s Friday evening.  Trust.  But my hope is that this post will bring you a little weekend cheer, to be carried through all the way up until Monday at 10:00 am.  ’Course, there are several things I’d like to discuss at this moment, not just one, but I’m sure you’ve come to expect that of me at this point in the game.  So here we go.

I’ve been smelling diaper cream for the better part of an hour now, and that would be fine except (well not fine, but…) there are approximately zero babies (or centenarians) within shouting distance of me.

I want to get to the BOTTOM of this!  <– diaper joke.

Ok so many of you know, I’ve been hunkered down today as I continue to spit up what will be Part Dos of hopefully only TWO Bachelor Finale recaps, in what is my albeit small but driven contribution to the world’s efforts in making a person like Ben pay for his behavior this year.  I wanna make the phrase go, “no BAD deed goes unpunished,” instead of the other way around – who’s with me?

But the thing is I’ve been raring to go on blogging this preview post of the killer new wedding collection that Ruche shared with me recently, because I think– scratch that, I KNOW it’s going to get your brain tingling and your body seizing when you see the whole shebang.

OMFG, THESE SHOES. | They’re called “I Do” for a reason. Because “I” want “to do” them. Kidding, sort of.

Happy late Monday afternoon (on… dun dun dunnn… Bachelor night), bubelahs!  Ok now listen, and listen real good like.

There are times.  Tiiiiiiimes, when a person has simply GOT to share something with her audience.  Something so deeply happy-ifing… so lovely… so beyond perfect… just so gashdarned right, that NOT to share it, well it just seems like that should be illegal, that ‘holding back’ of such a thing.

And this, ladies and gentlepersons… this is one of those times.

RUFFLES, LOVE & FRUSTRATION | Something I like, something I hate, and McPuppyPants does an impression. So in other words, business as usual.

Today, I’ve got to talk about something I feel pretty strongly about.  (And I’m gonna want to know if I’m alone in this feeling.)  Coupled, of course, with fashion, photography, pop culture and general wedding-related thingies.  So, a mixed bag. :)

Ok, SO.  Have you heard?   {Continue reading…}

FASHION for your HEALTH | your happiness and your look | Not Enough Sun in Your Life? Try Wearing it.

In her “Notes on Nursing: What It Is and What It Is Not,” English nurse Florence Nightingale wrote that light – preferably sunlight – plays an essential role in the process of getting well.  She also said that those of us who are ailing “should be able to see … sky and sunlight,” as she observed that most patients tended to lie with their faces turned towards the light, much in the way that “plants always make their way to the light.”

This is why doctors are always telling us to make sure we get enough Vitamin D.  Among its many purported health benefits, it is understood that the Vitamin D our body produces when our skin is exposed even to just a little bit of sunshine can actually make us feel better emotionally.  Which means it can literally and figuratively brighten our day!  That’s kind of awesome.

So, now that we know that sunlight is pretty important for our general well-being, it seems like it should be easy enough to get our hands on it – err, faces in it – right?  Just step into the light for 10-15 minutes and ta-da, you’ve got yourself enough rays for the day (well, health-wise; certainly not fun-wise).

Unfortunately, while at work, many of us do not have the privilege of being seated near south-facing windows, and still others have the misfortune of being caged inside of too-high cubicle walls, seemingly fated never to experience the touch and feel of daylight between the hours of 9am to 6pm.  (Which reminds me – when did the acceptable amount of hours in a typical work day go from 9 – 5 to 9 – 6?  When and WHY did this change?  Yes, I am asking you, The Man.)

Anyway… so what are we to do if we can’t spend some time outside, soaking up those warm winter rays?

Well, if you really don’t have any time at all to do it, then a) you’re being seriously overworked, and b) you might want to check with your doctor about alternative ways to get your daily dose – ’cause, for real, it’s important.

Beyond that, I’ve got some fashion advice: how about a fun, alternative way for you to get some light in your life?  While it won’t result in the production of Vitamin D, it will give you a seriously useful boost of confidence that should last well beyond sunset.  What is it?  Well, unless you’re interested in waking up at dawn to catch a few minutes of sunbeam satisfaction before you head off to work, I suggest dawning some glam threads that’ll serve to brighten your mood… not to mention many of those around you!  I love it when I see someone who has really put some effort into her look… especially if it’s on a day when I HAVEN’T!  :)

So, what to wear?  Today, I’ve gathered up a healthy mix of fun, shimmering, soft, chic and romantic looks for the flashion-obsessed bride!  Any sparkle or glow in your get-up will do; from a dress with lots of glitz, to a clutch that catches some serious light, to earrings that illuminate your immediate surroundings.  Whether you’re into a frock with some flash, or you prefer a soft, chic look that leaves the razzle-dazzle to a super accessory, it doesn’t matter… when you arrive at your bachelorette party in any one of these get-ups, you’ll look and feel hotter than each and every one of those girls on stage at your future hubby’s bach… I mean, any of those girls in their winter coats working the ski lifts at the lodge.  Because that’s where men go for bachelor parties; they go to ski lodges, and then they turn in early.  ;)

VINTAGE WEDDING LOVE | Lovely Looks for a Lingering Moment of Sweet Langour

bomobob on etsy - Cosmos print

Just a glimpse of these vintage-inspired looks made me want to jump through my screen and try on all of them.  The way I’d describe them is almost identical to the way Rodellee of Adore Vintage, which means a) I have a strong sisterly love for her, and b) I won’t attempt to do it better.  So – she identifies the dreamy pieces, by designer Juliette Hogan, as “a mix of late 30s elegance and 70s bohemian, but with more subdued colors.”  Couldn’t have said it better, myself.

The full print gown on the upper right is just sooo ideal for a vintage-inspired wedding.  Wedding gown or bridesmaid gown, either way, someone must wear this magnificent flowing luxuriousness.

The timeless elegance of those looks would look so lovely with any mix of these items on what is shaping up to be your super-chic wedding day:

GIFT LOVE | Only Things I Like More Than Great Gift Ideas Are Great Gift Inspiration Boards…

These gift ideas caught my eye so firmly, that I just had to share.  Though I think my love for them is quite apparent, given the very crudely exacto’d page tears on the right side of each leaf.  Somehow, I need to learn an effective way to manage my excitement when I’m tearing that excitement out of somewhere and scanning it into somewhere else that the world is going to see.  Any suggestions on how to reconcile thrill and precision?

I will eagerly await your advice; in the meantime, delight in these very glam, very thoughtful gift ideas.  Perfect for the holidays, a bridal shower, your office’s secret Santa (does capitalizing his name mean I still believe?)… really, any opportunity you may have to present someone with a little bit of superb style.  Plus a little assistance for the man in your life…

By the way, I’m starting with my favorite item, the Banana Republic Viscose dress on the right – which, by the way, I CAN’T FIND ANYWHERE.  Even right when this issue of InStyle Weddings hit newsstands!  Anyone able to locate it?  Such a dreamy frock… I want to be wearing it right now.  And I want to be wearing it for my rehearsal dinner, too because it is SO RICHLY BEAUTIFUL.

Do You Realize What Today Is? Not Much Time Left To Find Your Look!

Seriously, I’m asking.  Do you know what today’s date is?  Because it just hit me; it’s DECEMBER 14, 2009.  That means that New Year’s Eve is just around the corner.  We’re nearly half-way through the month, and I’m a little worried you might not know what you’ll have on as you bring in the New Year.  This is an issue.

Since I’m so incredibly concerned about this, I’ve compiled twin sets of my favorite dresses, jewelry and clutches… plus a hot shoe.  These all have one – well, two, major things in common: they will require layering, as in a heavy coat since you will suffer hypothermia should you walk out in the threads posted here, alone… and, second, I adore them.  Haha, that’s so not important to you… but if you keep coming back, it could be that you like some of the things I like, so maybe the I love it factor is, indeed, relevant?  ;)

And now, the divalicious dresses, glistening gold jewelry and the cutest freakin’ clutches I’ve seen lately.  Add these wow factors to your look, (especially this first backless number I’ve been coveting for about a month) and you’ll blow ‘em all away.  You can snag each and every one of these over at shopbop.

Coming up next: Keeping It Bridal – you’re a bride, so dress like it; great ivory, white and cream looks for New Year’s Eve...
