DEAR TKB: “I am getting married in just over a week and am in desperate need of guidance!” | Also, Candy Shop Photo Booths = My New Favorite Photo Booths!

Can you guess where they are?  I can’t keep a secret they’re in a candy shop photo booth!

Happy Thursday evenin’, honey bunnies!  Ok SO.  I’ve switched things up today, because we received an urgent question from a reader who needs help (if you couldn’t tell by the title of this post), and I definitely need your help figuring out what she should do.  Reason?  I have nada zip zilch nowhere near the understanding or personal life experience that it’s gonna take to provide the answer she needs.  Oh, and paired up with the reader question?  The killingest APROPOS sneak peek of a stylish little candy shop shoot, that’s totally like I said apropos, and totally killingest.   {Continue reading…}

REAL WEDDING | This post might make Vogue’s Anna Wintour rethink her stance on *soft* images. BONUS: One of the prettiest + one of the smartest trends in weddings.

Ok, so just so you know, today’s feature makes my heart beat so far out of my chest that it jogs up my sternum and slaps me in the face with my aorta.  (I should note here that my aorta’s a bitch.  She face slaps with an intensity and meaning that cannot be explained without first welcoming into my life a belief in reincarnation, and then accepting that souls can come back as aortas.  Bitchy souls, at that.)  … Okey dokey!  Now that we’ve arrived safely in Looneytown on this fine Monday afternoon, we can get going!  And, BEGIN: {Continue reading…}

WEDDING PROP LOVE | pastel mustaches!!! | Smitten Sticks from Le Papier Studio

Found these little gems on Etsy in a shop called Le Papier Studio.  How ADORABLE are these?!  Designed by the very creative Vana Chupp, they’re a girlified version of what has become quite the popular prop in wedding photography across the country.  Just add a little pastel to anything, and look what you get.  Heck, even mustaches can look feminine!

Lynx & Leo Dress

A bunch of HUGE things are going on over the next week or two.  I shall itemize them now.

(… But I shall also pepper in my hottest dress picks for summer, because who doesn’t love that?  A good read (if I do say so myself) + the cutest dresses ever = a great blog post, in my estimation.)  Ok, DRESS PIC TIME!

Item #1:

Your proposal stories are b for bananas.  I really don’t know how else to describe them.  They are just making my YEAR right now.  They are so awesome that I need to pursue a column in a wedding or style magazine where I can feature them regularly because that’s how much they rule.  And guess what?  Set your watches (my 6th grade mathlete buddies) because the series is set to start in a couple of weeks.  I know you guys are dying to see them up in lights and believe me, I am dying to bring them to your neck faces.  DRESS PIC!  … {Continue reading…}

SMILEBOOTH | photo booth backdrop inspiration | Streamers, Confetti, Whatevs, Make Your Own!

Ok, I am obsessed with a lot of things.  (You’ll likely remember this thing, which has a lot in common with today’s post.)  Frankly, I don’t know how I make it through the day with so many obsessions in tow.  I see something I love (aka a new obsession), I jot it down on one of myriad post-its or leave the tab open on my browser, next to the 47 other tabs that are currently open (shh, don’t tell AppleCare about that).  So you get it.  I get obsessed with something unique/uniquely pretty/uniquely fantastical/uniquely priced for the value/etc.  And I keep it, on paper or open indefinitely in a browser tab.  And Smilebooth is no different.  In fact it hails from tab No. 4 in my Firefox browser, which means me loved it long time.  (Note: I have Firefox and Safari open concurrently, as I need access to two email accounts – you know how we do).

There are sooooo many reasons to love Smilebooth.  I love the people I met who operate it (they are radically nice, polite and all around good people); I love the concept; I love the memories created; I love the ease of use/interactiveness, etc.  See?  Lots of reasons.  Ok, great.  But there’s something I love even more than any of that, combined…

And it’s photo booth BACKDROP INSPIRATION!  Behoooold:

And what’s more?  They don’t just do the pictures and leave the backdrop entirely to you (unless that’s what you want, of course).  They can create a CUSTOM BACKDROP for your special event!  THIS IS SO RAD I AM GOING TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK, ACK, ACK, ACK, ACK, ACK.

Check it: you really can go in any direction you want with this…

FYI: I think it’s BYOC (bring your own costume)…

Here’s the skinny from the source:

We will work one on one with you to create an environment for your Smilebooth that gets your guests excited and adds that special touch to your photos. We can design the backdrop to compliment your wedding/event and carry out its overall theme. Or we can create something completely outrageous and different!

Love it.  How fun does designing a custom backdrop for your photo booth photos sound?  Because I think it sounds the funnest.  I also don’t think anyone’s questioning that.  However, you’re free to go backdropless, if you dig a clean look:

See?  It’s all about giving great face.

Actually, all you really need is a bunch of rad, free people who aren’t afraid to let loose and be a little silly on film.  Yeah, I have friends like that.  Fer. Sure.  And now I’m getting excited about the kind of Smilebooth experience I could have here.  Ok, this is a must.

{By the way, for those who are interested, you can get that blue dress above at Lulu*s (show below in white and coral).  You’re welcome.}

Anyway, as I was saying, I am deeply in love with the Smilebooth concept, and wholeheartedly recommend hiring them for your festivity, whatever it may be.  Want to check out more photos?  Take a trip on over to the raddest of blogs, run by Matt of Our Labor of Love, to check out some killer Smilebooth craziness.  Personally, I can’t get enough.  For example, check out this masterpiece I grabbed from Matt’s blog:

How freaking brilliant is all of that.  Smilebooth rules.

So, what do you think?  Do you love the idea of designing your own backdrop?  Would it be colorful or bare?  Or is this just not for you?  Chime in; I’m dying to know what you think!

xoxo!  -Alison

DIY PHOTO BOOTH LOVE | Pop Your Head In and Smile! | Photography by Elizabeth Messina

When I came across this fabulous idea, I immediately knew I had to post about it.  This is so right up my alley!  And I suspect it’s right up yours, too…

Elizabeth Messina – one of my absolute favorite photographers in the entire galaxy and beyond, and who has a blog that is almost as fabulous as its maker –  posted about these babies and it made me go insane for the idea in a clinical way.

How spectacular are those!  I would die for these kinds of photos of my family and friends.  I was talking about this with some friends recently; photo booths are a surefire way to get your guests to ham it up and, as I look at these, I can’t imagine a more beautiful way to capture the action!  Forget for a moment the simple fabric backdrops we know and love; this is a fully interactive wall, complete with three key points of head insertion!  (The double-entendre right there was NOT intentional, if you’re wondering.  Is it peculiar that I don’t feel like rephrasing, though?  I just don’t have the energy to be sufficiently appropriate right now.)

The smaller frames surrounding those that are empty hold photos of the bride’s and the groom’s families.  How wonderful is that?!  The bride, whose name is Kristen, added these family photos to this incredible work of art, created by Sasha Souza.  Do you love it like I do?  Well there are a couple more examples to check out over on Kiss the Groom!

Speaking of Elizabeth Messina, here’s a look at the kind of work she churns out, time after time.  Talk about a photographer with an eye for perfection…

The above and below are from the photo booth couple’s wedding!  Love it.  I am officially obsessed with brides who wear light jackets and feathered headgear on their wedding days.  Bold and beautiful.

By the way, if you decide to check out all the yumminess over on Kiss the Groom, you may notice a gorgeous pregnant woman dressed in black lace and a fedora.  If not, here’s the link.  Look at her belly button.  I pray to all that is holy that my belly button remains THAT FLAT when I am, one day, at that stage of pregnancy.  That is the flattest, most subtle belly button pop-out I’ve EVER SEEN.

{ HUMAN LOVE } Apparently, I’m hotter than one Miss Penélope Cruz.

In a weak moment, while laying across the bed one night as the fiancé washed up, I said, passively: “Sometimes I wish I was as beautiful as Penélope Cruz.”  And you know what fiancé said?  He said:

“Are you kidding?  You’re WAY better looking than Penélope Cruz.”

My heart a-flutter, I lay silent for about ten seconds.  Then, in a soft, hopeful voice, I said: “Baby, do you really think I’m prettier than Penélope Cruz?”

He really meant it.  I know because he’s terrible at lying.

It was one of those moments you remember always.  I’ve stored that one safely inside the treasure box of my memory.

… Along with this:

By the way, WHOA…

I had no idea… I mean, I… I never knew they were that… that she had such big… I mean – wow.

Ok, she is smoking hot.  I am not as pretty as Penélope Cruz.

But I do believe you think I am, honey.  Which makes it mean just as much.

Stay tuned, friends, because later on today I’ll have your Fab Finds – Urban Wed edition!  Cakes and cuppies that’ll plum knock your socks off.  I kid you not; these desserts are the prettiest and most skillfully made I’ve seen in quite some time.  And a little wedding stationery action is coming your way, too.  It’s gonna be delicious, cross my heart.  Plus, I think I’m gonna throw in a printable freebie I love – you know, for good measure.  See you in a bit!
