But first, a story…

Over the weekend, the boy and I went into town and had some breakfast, because eating’s important.  As we were walking back, we saw on our right this adorable little dessert table set up on the sidewalk.  It was a tiny little bake sale, and there were two cute young moms manning the post.  We had passed it on our way to breakfast, and it had smelled de-li-cious, so I was like, yay it’s still there!  Brownies, cookies, muffins, cupcakes… everything.  You name it.  Oh how I love mini mommy bake sales on the sidewalk in Park Slope!

Anyway, for no reason at all as is so often the case with me, I found myself walking a little bit ahead of the fiancé, and passed by the table first on our way back home.  So, in that moment of realizing that my tendency to walk faster than the average bear and my lack of awareness of or concern for those with whom I’m supposedly walking had struck again, I turned around just in time to see the boy abruptly jerk his head up towards the ladies and stare at one of them with an “I totally heard that” look on his face.  This caused the two women to erupt in embarrassed laughter.

The whole thing was peculiar, and I was soooo curious about what had happened.  I slowed down to join him again – seriously, this happens so often, I really need to get a handle on my speed walking (some of my strolling partners have been known to become noticeably out of breath) – Anyway, I slowed down, and when we were again side by side, I asked him wussup.

ME: “Wussup?”

FIANCÉ: “She said ‘eat my cookie.’”

She said EAT MY COOKIE.  A Park Slope bake sale mommy said “eat my cookie” essentially to my fiancé.  It was stupendous.  How freaking scandalous is that?!!  I wish things like this happened more often.  Especially in Park Slope.  I should have gotten her number so we could share childhood stories and stay out really late, like, ’til 10:30pm or something outrageous like that.  And then hold mini bake sales during which we hit on unwitting young men whose fiancées are walking waaaaaaay ahead of them and so they appear to be fair game.  Ooooohhhh I think I just stumbled upon my dream way to spend the summer.

Anyway, back to reality.  In celebration of this rare, weird event, I present to you – because free association rules the roost here – the most perfect little ceramic cookie jar from Anthropologie!  Also, its friends, Tools and Biscuits jars.  And everything else I love at Anthro right now that I think would make for a beautifully styled e-session (or wedding)… from fashion to dishtowels to table decoration.  Here we go!

ENGAGEMENT SESSION LOVE | simply bloom photography | Hipsters Make the Best Engagement Session Subjects…

I realize Valentine’s Day has come and gone already, and that it’s March 2.  Fully aware.  I also understand that, once a holiday has passed, most don’t dwell on it beyond its final hour.  But let me ask you this: do we deny to those of us who were born on a leap year the right to celebrate their birthdays each and every single year, even though it’s a total farce and we’re all laughing at them behind their backs?  No, we do not deny them that right.  Because we love them?  No.  Because it’s fair.

So, in the spirit of fairness, and for leap year babies everywhere, if they exist (I mean, do they?  I’ve heard stories, but they seem as rare as pandas.  Comment if you’re out there – I’d love to do lunch and learn about your people.  How does it go; kind of like dog years?)… here’s an engagement session in the key of love.

Vania and Christine of SimplyBloom Photography seem to churn out swoonworthy sessions each and every time.  It’s a gift.

That’s a headboard.

I want this girl to throw my future children their birthday parties.  I’ve never seen someone so committed to a theme.  I bet money she has a blog – this kind of creativity doesn’t just sit idle.  If you read this, let me know, ok?  You’ve displayed some pretty amazing skills, here, and if you’re not in prop & set styling, you may have missed your calling.

Umm.  Love.

Check out the shot below.  This sneak peak of an upcoming shoot is what started today’s SimplyBloom frenzy.  I cannot wait to see more shots involving those pastel threads (LOVING his plaid shirt) and soft, embroidered drapery.

By the way – and tell me if you’ve noticed this, too – one thing that has always stood out to me about really fashiontastic engagement shoots… like, the really beautiful, colorful ones that always yield the best pics… is the fact that none of those outfits would ever find their way onto the body of my fiancé.  He’d just never wear something that plaid, or with suspenders, or generally anything especially hipster.  Not that I’d necessarily ask him to do so.  But I just know it in my heart that, if he did dawn a fedora, or wear a doorknob boutonniere, it would be because he loves me.  And for no other reason.

VINTAGE WEDDING LOVE | Lovely Looks for a Lingering Moment of Sweet Langour

bomobob on etsy - Cosmos print

Just a glimpse of these vintage-inspired looks made me want to jump through my screen and try on all of them.  The way I’d describe them is almost identical to the way Rodellee of Adore Vintage, which means a) I have a strong sisterly love for her, and b) I won’t attempt to do it better.  So – she identifies the dreamy pieces, by designer Juliette Hogan, as “a mix of late 30s elegance and 70s bohemian, but with more subdued colors.”  Couldn’t have said it better, myself.

The full print gown on the upper right is just sooo ideal for a vintage-inspired wedding.  Wedding gown or bridesmaid gown, either way, someone must wear this magnificent flowing luxuriousness.

The timeless elegance of those looks would look so lovely with any mix of these items on what is shaping up to be your super-chic wedding day:

GIFT LOVE | Only Things I Like More Than Great Gift Ideas Are Great Gift Inspiration Boards…

These gift ideas caught my eye so firmly, that I just had to share.  Though I think my love for them is quite apparent, given the very crudely exacto’d page tears on the right side of each leaf.  Somehow, I need to learn an effective way to manage my excitement when I’m tearing that excitement out of somewhere and scanning it into somewhere else that the world is going to see.  Any suggestions on how to reconcile thrill and precision?

I will eagerly await your advice; in the meantime, delight in these very glam, very thoughtful gift ideas.  Perfect for the holidays, a bridal shower, your office’s secret Santa (does capitalizing his name mean I still believe?)… really, any opportunity you may have to present someone with a little bit of superb style.  Plus a little assistance for the man in your life…

By the way, I’m starting with my favorite item, the Banana Republic Viscose dress on the right – which, by the way, I CAN’T FIND ANYWHERE.  Even right when this issue of InStyle Weddings hit newsstands!  Anyone able to locate it?  Such a dreamy frock… I want to be wearing it right now.  And I want to be wearing it for my rehearsal dinner, too because it is SO RICHLY BEAUTIFUL.
